General Wolves News

Seeing that squad written down shows how weak it is and that we need some first team signings through the door ASAP. It'll be another relegation scrap as it stands.
Maybe so, but IMO if we'd had VP at the start of last season we wouldn't really have been involved down there, certainly not to the same degree.

Our squad has gaps but it isn't that wretched overall IMV.

Massively seems a stretch to me; losing Cunha obviously is a net negative but we’ve shown we can hold together without him. Rayan; I don’t know what we do there. I still can’t tell what exactly VP wants from his fullbacks/wingbacks.

I don’t think losing those two by themselves puts us in significantly more trouble than we would have been anyway, but a lot will depend on how well and quickly we can integrate Fer and any other new signings. I’d like to think that we will only see JSL and Munetsi improve their chemistry even more, and they already go well together.

Tl,dr; I think VP could have a squad worse than ours playing competitively enough to avoid a lot of anxious glances down the table. I’m in my Optimist Era again.

We'll be fine. We'll sign five players that most of us had never heard of, and as long as at least three of them hit the ground running we could be looking as high as 13th

I think if the season kicked off tomorrow with that squad, we are in a relegation scrap and needing to rely heavily on not getting injuries to key players and a big slice of luck. With VP in charge I reckon we'd just about manage to stay up - but we've also lost our top scorer and top assister from last season, and as it stands, we have not replaced either of them so are clearly much weaker.

I've no idea why we haven't got more incoming business over the line yet, but am crossing everything (and I mean... EVERYTHING ;)) that there is some imminent news.

At this point any negativity is probably justified. 🙂

I just can’t do it right now, Charlotte have sucked all the pessimism out of me. There’s a reason I haven’t given an update on them in about three months…

Well, as it stands we are MASSIVELY weaker. It’s not just those two is it, we’ve lost Sarabia and Semedo who were, in different ways, key contributors. If players are coming in next week then it’s not a real problem yet.

Personally not bothered in the least about Sarabia; Nélson… well, blind optimism again.

We were just so much better organized under VP, and so quickly; IMO that alone can be enough with the promoted sides falling further and further behind the PL incumbents.

Hmm, we're losing how many goal contributions from Cunha, RAN and Sarabia?
Fer and Hugo have got a lot of work to do this season.

Two of the four games he missed for being a prick were Southampton and Ipswich.

I’m aware, but we’ve conspired to lose those before. See: Losing to the same Ipswich side at Molineux.

There's absolutely no doubt on Fer. Hugo's a total non-factor for me. Not a PL player IMO.

I'm putting a lot of faith in Vítor and his team getting the incomings right (and, far more ridiculously, faith in Shi making sure those wanted incomings are actually signed).

Oh we'll have incomings no doubt, some of them will be decent but my concern is will they be enough to replace what we've lost. I'm not expecting direct replacements for Cunha and RAN obviously but the incomers will need to be high quality.

There’s definitely doubt on Fer - I’m sure he’s a good player, but he’s young and played very few games. He’s also not played out of Spain. It’s utter nonsense to suggest he’ll contribute to the level of Cunha (or even RAN) at this stage.

It's not that I disagree with that, I suppose a large part of what I'm counting on is VP continuing to improve the players we have. Marshall got chucked in the deep end immediately and did pretty well (depending on who you ask, he's quite the marmite lad, as we know). I'm expecting more goals/assists from both him and Jørgen this season. Ditto for Jean; obviously have my biases but he just looks so much better in that shuttler #8 role next to André and João.

I'm genuinely more concerned about how we handle the fullback/wingback situation, which is pretty fucking dire if we consider both RAN and Semedo to be gone.

Apologies, meant there was no doubt that he needs to be high quality. Or, put another way, there's not doubt that that's what we need him to be.

Whether he is or not; definitely tons of doubt. I don't know a damn thing about him; never seen nor heard of him before he signed.

I admire your positivity, I'm usually a glass half full person myself at this stage of the season but it all feels a bit desperate currently.

You say positivity, I say naïveté.

I haven't studied his record, but given the amount of jobs he's had, it's not exactly implausible to think that he's had a number of good 9 months followed by it steadily going to shit. In terms of a history of reliability, there's not stacks to put faith into. I don't think we'll go down, but clubs with better squads have done.
