General Wolves News

It's not that I disagree with that, I suppose a large part of what I'm counting on is VP continuing to improve the players we have. Marshall got chucked in the deep end immediately and did pretty well (depending on who you ask, he's quite the marmite lad, as we know). I'm expecting more goals/assists from both him and Jørgen this season. Ditto for Jean; obviously have my biases but he just looks so much better in that shuttler #8 role next to André and João.

I'm genuinely more concerned about how we handle the fullback/wingback situation, which is pretty fucking dire if we consider both RAN and Semedo to be gone.
The fact of the matter is that we’ve got massive gaps up front right now. So we are objectively worse off than we were at the end of the season. It doesn’t really matter what you think of Sarabia, VP played him nearly every game and he made valuable contributions. Now we don’t have him and there is no replacement. The replacement isn’t someone already at the club. So that is very much that.

Now, even I think we will actually be replacing him and the other de facto gaps of Hwang (VP - you rate - doesn’t rate him) and Guedes. But until we do, we look, and are, worse. That’s before pontificating on Munetsi’s freaky role being worked out and JRBs ‘golden’ spell continuing. High tariff, both of them. We just clearly need some fckin players. Still time, but we need them.

I just don’t think we’d be in relegation trouble, not like we were under GO. Was never a question of “are we worse off” and more “by how much”.

I can’t dig further into JRB and Marshall because it’s just another example of people deciding what a player is almost right away and then tossing away any improvement as obviously temporary. That line of thinking infuriates me so won’t do any good to continue.

Not sure why my opinion of Hwang is coming up; I’ve not mentioned him at all because he’s pretty clearly not favored by VP, so that’s pretty much that. No chance I’d trade VP to keep any player on our squad. Not like he’s some angel, though; he’s going to get things wrong. That doesn’t equate to any disagreement I would theoretically have with him being some invalidation of when I do agree with him.

I thought Sarabia was mostly a waste of time last season, unfortunately.

We were so much better organized under VP in such a short time that I’m just not concerned with being in the bottom 3. If I’ve communicated that I don’t think we should still be bringing in more players, I’ve not been honest.

Simple point is that today we are weaker than on the last day of the season. Period. Like you I think we’ll sort it out. Hope we’ll sort it out. But I’m prepared to be disappointed on that front. If I am, we’re screwed as VP isn't sticking around just to keep our heads above water with a Munetsi trick that won’t work second time around.

Players please. 5 weeks till we try to beat City.

All I can say is I hope Marshall and Jørgen prove it wasn't just a trick.

@Paddingtonwolf

I just said “y’all” out loud and my immediate reflex was to think of you vomiting. ❤️

"Yins" in Pittsburgh. I haven't cracked that one.

Yam just isn't a Wolverhampton thing, it's far more Tipton or Dudley. Lived in Wolves all my life and I can guarantee I've never said yam (other than slagging off the whole yam yam narrative) in my life.

Yam is quite a modern thing imo, Dudley born and bred and it just wasnt a thing when I was a kid. Term was yoam for my Black Country lifetime.

When I used to work in wolves city centre many moons ago, one girl I used to work with said to another "yo'm a proper yam yam yo am"

It´s just a mistake by our Brummie friends who cannot distinguish between different Wolverhampton dialects. Born and bred in Wood End, I am sure we used to say things like ´Am yow gooin up towun ?´ and ´Yowm drivin me mad`. And that was different to old Wednesfield. Maybe I am just a long gone old git and can´t remember properly though. ;-)

My old girl, off the beechdale, she's never said 'yam'. 'Yoom' is more common for her and her siblings. Yoom tekkin the piss; yoom jowkin ay ya.

It's mental really, such massive differences over a couple of miles

The accent thing has noticeably changed in my lifetime. Bilston was like another world with Black Country accents everywhere, but none of my school friends in Heath Town or Wednesfield spoke that way. The "accent fault line" has clearly moved northwest now, with the east and south of the city seeming to have the Black Country accent a lot more widespread.

It's really quite unfathomable for an American, I would think. We've got plenty of dialects and mixes, but nothing like how it seems to be over there. If you told me that London by itself contained half a dozen dialects, I'd believe it.

Interesting, especially as I don´t live there and only visit a few times a year. Just to add that I think the growth of suburban Wolverhampton and the movement of Wulfrunians from the old central areas to Heath Town, suburbia and the nearby villages also led to merging and other changes to the old localized dialects. My family origins in Short Heath/Darlo and Bilston/Bradley seemed to back that up during my youth.
