Live Match Discussion 2024/25

City embarrassing themselves worse than Jinky with tonight's Champions League appearance.

Probably been obvious for a while now but it’s looking more and more like the fall of the Man City empire.

They spent a fortune in Jan on players I don't know - which doesn't count for anything. How good they are will determine that

I think Guardiola has run out of steam, I’m not sure he’ll recover from this season.

There's a guy in our office who looks just like Pep, even wears a grey turtleneck just like he used too. I reckon they've swapped places which is now why City are so shit.
Is his name Pap?

If it happens again next season I’d say it’s a possible fall of the city empire but to early to call it after 1 bad season. They had a poor season in 2019/20 and backed that up with 4 straight titles.

Pep’s tactics have IMO always relied on having a positive talent gap; without that, it’s not all that difficult to exploit.

Ready for Louie to smack me to Sunday in response.

No he vastly improves players from an England perspective Stones, Walker and Sterling have been far better players under Pep.
Yes he’s had the luck of working with good players but he more often than not improves players.
He’s batted off Liverpool numerous times and did it with Arsenal. Achieved 100 pts in one season and 98 the next and pretty had to win every single game between feb-May of 2019 which takes incredible resilience and energy.
Reality is o think he’s probably burnt out which is understandable.

We don’t really know I guess! Although this season isn’t doing anything to dispel that..

It’s not like he’s beating pub teams to titles either. I think most would agree Liverpool would’ve had won a lot more without city under Pep being around. Won 1 CL with City but again just highlights how hard a competition it is. They’ve still reached finals and SF and lost on close margins.
You can chuck the same stuff at Anchelotti especially considering he was pretty average when at Everton.

I’m definitely exaggerating a bit but one of my overriding feelings when watching his Barça sides was that he had the only two fullbacks in the world who could properly play such a risky style and not get caught out. Having Busquets (the dick) + Puyol + Pique as maybe the strongest defensive triad in the world at the time also helped.

Keep going Brentford.... 3-0 after 32 mins....run those goals up!

Bobby Decordova-Reid is one of the worst regular starting PL players I have ever seen. And they also have Wout Faes who is even worse.

Everton playing Man U off the park.
Moyes has transformed that club - yes, United are bad, but I can see Everton with a late push at the Europa Conference.

Amorim is doing some job that he's almost making Ten Haag look vaguely competent.
