Manchester City (H) - 16/08/25 - Build-Up & Match Thread

I was optimistic during the final third/quarter of last season and thought that with some careful planning and recruitment we could look forward to a decent season in 25/26.

Now, I generally have little enthusiasm or interest and I can see attending on matchday being a chore...

Thinking back to how electric the fanbase was after the Leicester game, it's criminal that the club have squandered that
Spot on. I wasn’t expecting like for like replacements for players leaving but I don’t think it was unrealistic to expect more depth in the squad before the opening fixture to compensate for the players we have lost. The saving in wages has been huge yet here we are much weaker than we were just four months ago.

It’s shit. I suspect we’ll get thumped. It’s still the cricket season FFS football. But for some reason I’m looking forward to Saturday more than some other games in the last two years. The VP effect still offers some greater connection and (misplaced as he’ll go) hope than the years of kicking off under GON and Lage.

‘Excitement’ would be taking it too far.

Trying to think a bit more positively, but maybe its a good time to play City, I'd be more worried by playing Burnley or Leeds at home, getting City out of the way may be good.

Also, we'll see us set up differently than in the friendlies, we will naturally defend deeper, and it is in those games where Andre can really show himself.

One thing I've been impressed with this summer has been set piece delivery and effectiveness. It does seem to have improved under VP, and Arias and Bueno seem to put in a really good corner.

So whilst I do think we'll lose, we may build some confidence from a narrow defeat and being resilient.

Two days till the new season starts!

Anyone excited?...
Yes. Won't be there this weekend, but I am looking forward to the season & when I will be able to go.
Vitor is really efficient at organising the team. Appreciate the depth isn't what any of us want.
I do think the 3 players in so far bode well, provided they are supplemented with 3 of a similar quality.

Ederson out for Man City this weekend.

Pep dropped him from the squad. Presume Trafford will start for them.

I know he probably wouldn't have played anyway (unless Hoever is as bad as we all fear and is subbed off), but Tchatchoua has missed the deadline for tomorrow anyway now, hasn't he?

Normally 12pm the day before a game...maybe 5pm...but he won't have the clearance/visa even if he had signed in time.

You've got to think our best chance of getting anything will be piling down our left if Ratheus is stinking out the place at RB (Pep does have some very, very odd ideas).

Nah Larsen will score, hes been ordinary during pre season but tbf he had no service.
Against City there'll be more space for Arias trickery and let's not forget Munetsi causing chaos on the other side.😉
