O'Neil aka GONe

Tbf he's not just gunna blame himself for everything that went wrong, whether he's to blame or not, he's touting himself around for a new job, what do people expect him to say?

He completely lost the plot in the last month and any prospective employer will probably be more interested in that than his philosophy. VP doing so well has made getting another manager’s job much harder for GO as it exposed the level of his ineptitude.

After Jeff and Hobbs do it, he may do so.

The start of that year being miserable was started by those 2 more than anyone else.
🤔

Unless I missed something neither of those were interviewed in that piece?

It was GoN's interview... but there's not much in the way of humility and more of the same self aggrandising nonsense.

Its a job interview piece innit

1) Weakness - Set plays
2) Strengths - ace at making world class players
3) Regrets - I've had a few
4) What have you done whilst out work - Spent time reflecting, speaking with experts and helping others
5) Are you just shit - No but others are.

Good to see 7 months on he can see still get fans angry on a Sunday morning.

But you are asking/hoping for something from an interview that you aren't going to get.

Obvious what this interview is about. Dipped his toe on the comeback trail, knocked back by a couple and now needs to keep himself relevant. He is not going to sit there and say "fuck me, I was terrible. Not sure how I survived as long as I did and only hung around to ensure I got my full pay off" "tactically I was a bag of bollocks".

So you get a bit of i was poor in this area, I improved some players, hard done by the circumstances, taken the time to look at myself, I will be better.

Its generally a load of bollocks and a fluffed up piece, see the journo talking about player sales, goals expected improving etc to help the narrative for him.

Save the anger for his autobiography...

If you're expecting him to come out and say, 'I didn't have a clue what I was doing, all the mistakes were my fault, I was promoted above my ability, you're delusional.
Not sure why anyone read it and got angry. He's irrelevant imo, he's gone, I just don't care about him anymore.

He’s done that piece to get his name back out there as he’s being forgotten, I still think he’s not going to work again in management, all the jobs that have come up pre season, his names been mentioned a couple of times by teams he’d say are below him.
The realisation he’s fucked it up may be dawning on him

Until his expectations align with his ability he’ll struggle to get a manager’s job. He’d be a massive gamble for a mid table Championship team as there are likely to be better options.

"No matter how we played we still found a way to concede goals"

But he never changed how we played? Or if he did try to, could never do so.

There's a lot of deluding himself there, maybe a little awareness about 'the data' but not twigging he needs to change his approach. Deflects too much. Saying it was 'fixed' in January with signings shows he never got what was wrong. Even if we had Agbadou under him we would have conceded loads.

He'll probably be one of those who can never develop or change his approach. Might go OK for a while in his next job in the Championship but then the wheels will fall off and he won't learn, again.

Pairing Andre and Gomes in midfield and not having them run around chasing the ball like primary school kids made as big a difference as Agbadou. Of course our XG went up under GO - he never understood that the opposition’s XG went up even more.

Its clear he is a training ground coach.

Big praise of himself for goals scored that were designed at Compton plus of course his great Bournemouth destroyer piece for Sky.

What he can't do though is change based what is happening in front of him during a game. A lot of self reflection and help required. He should stick to just the coaching side for me.
