REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

UK food supplies face further disruption this year due to a "medieval" government IT system that is still not yet ready to process post-Brexit paperwork, The Independent has learned.

Companies importing food from the EU must comply with reams of additional red tape since Saturday but, over the weekend, it was still not possible for some traders to submit vital details of their cargo because government software is plagued by technical bugs.

Problems primarily affected shipments of fruit, vegetables and plants, with importers also experiencing difficulty logging details of animal products.

The government said it was aware of the issue but had not yet established a workaround, meaning that tens of thousands of importers cannot be sure that they are able to submit required forms for food imports.

That is a bit misleading, well the photo is anyway, that was operation Brock at Christmas which was (but not exclusively) caused by the French imposing Covid restriction on incoming drivers, rather than purely Brexit
Have we started driving on the right?

Is Calais Port in England?
Depends on how much of a tory you are I guess?

Was commenting on Paul saying the queues are due to French checks on incoming drivers. That photo looks like the road up to the port on the French side.

My bad, thought you were commenting on Leeds photo. Must read your posts more carefully in future ;)

point i was trying to make was that as a result of a lack of any realistic plan, our busiest port will now see it's main arterial route affected by roadworks that will take a minimum of 12 months. And that is assuming they won't over-run.

Dominic Cummings;

“It wasn’t until 25 September 2020 that he (BJ) finally understood even vaguely what leaving the Customs Union meant. I will never forget the look on his face when, after listening to Frost in a meeting on the final stage of the negotiation, he said, ‘No no no Frosty, f**k this, what happens with a deal?’ And Frost looked up from his paper and said, ‘PM, this is what happens with a deal, that’s what leaving the Customs Union means.’ The PM’s face was priceless. He sat back in his chair and looked around the room with appalled disbelief and shook his head.”

Jacob Rees Mogg claims that forcing EU citizens living in this country to apply to remain in their houses, to stay in their jobs and to continues paying UK taxes is one of Brexit's successes.

You're reminder that before the 2016 Referendum the official Vote Leave campaign released a document signed by Boris Johnson, Priti Vacant and Michael Gove that promised...

"There will be no change in status for EU citizens already lawfully resident in the UK. EU citizens will automatically be granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK and will be treated no less favourably than at present."

A Tory MP standing in human shit when visiting the lorries queues in Kent is a benefit IMO. Unleash more of that

Everyone with half a brain knew it was bollocks. Anyone with a passing knowledge of the Northern Ireland situation knew that was a circle that could never be squared properly.

The answer was "they'll sort something out" and when it was pointed out that "they" were clearly at best a bunch that were economical with the truth, in reality practiced and seasoned liars, the argument sort of fizzled out into "oh well we won anyway, get over it".

More and more EU legacy stuff gets tapered off as we go along, every time it makes everything that much more difficult.

Farage will soon pop up, desperate for a few quid, claiming that Brexit was a great idea but it's been delivered badly, let's give me a go at it. No one remind him that he actively and repeatedly pushed for a Norway style deal before realising that you're best off throwing proper red meat at the savages, even if it kills them.
