Yep. My (immigrant) in laws believed that and voted leave with that fear massively in mind.
Bargain loving brits in the sun on the tv right now, only watching because my son was watching milkshake beforehand.....anyway, who should pop up...Andy from Wolverhampton, owns a Sports Bar called Busters......my thought was 'lets hope my son doesn't fancy doing the same in years to come'.

Real life consequence of the Brexit bullshit for a small business:
The world's largest board game convention is in Essen, up to 250,000 visits in 3 days. We chatted to another publisher (bigger than us) about going, we've been thinking about it. They said there is an absolute stack of paperwork needed to cross the border and because of the taxes to take stock into Germany, and then taxes to bring it back into the UK, it worked out cheaper for them to hire a container in Essen and leave all of their stock there in storage for the following year.
At that point we decided that maybe we can't take a chance on doing the convention and potentially losing a lot of money.
