When Spiers started as the main journalist he was a big improvement. Simply by not being Nash who was just appalling. Frequently completely wrong, basic factual inaccuracies that were easily checkable, always pursuing the negative angle, bad writing on a linguistic level, bad writing in that he never wrote anything interesting whatsoever, nonsensical statements when called out ("I'm not paid to know about foreign football" - bad enough but he was talking about a Real Madrid player), leaps of faith on idle speculation that any logical examination would reveal was never actually going to happen, refusing to back down even when conclusively proven wrong, no feel for the club or the supporters, self-important in the extreme, ultra-precious if anyone questioned him, snarky and a bit of a nasty piece of work at times on social media...it's hard to be much worse than that.
As time has gone on Spiers has acquired many of those traits to the point where he isn't really any improvement on what Nash was. The worst of it being he now thinks it's fun to revel in it. No Tim, if people are calling you out for being a fucking dick, it's probably because you're acting like a fucking dick.
