The Cricket Thread

Where batsmen have got big scores no other batsman has backed them up with even a half century
Root 122 Foakes 47 (I'm ignoring Robinson)
Duckett 153 Stokes 42
Pope 196 Duckett 47

Some achievement

Good job he got it at the tail-end of the first innings as its looking unlikely he'll get a go second time round

Stokes has decided to skip the T20 WC, which is disappointing

He hasn't, that 50 in the 2022 final was his first ever for England, and for years he hasn't bowled much in white ball cricket even when he was mostly fit.

True enough, but that's a one-off performance at odds with the rest of his career. At this point I'd back Jacks to do more in T20 batting at 4 and bowling a few overs.

Salt
Buttler
Bairstow
Jacks
Brook
Livingstone
Curran
Rehan/Mo
Rashid
Archer (yes I know)
Topley

I'd be minded to go something like that. Duckett, Wood, Rehan/Mo and Hain to make up the squad.

ECB still pushing the hundred and looking for private investment in the franchises which won’t at all unbalance the county game against the ten counties they randomly left out of their shit pyjama jamboree.

Kill the hundred. Kill it with fire.

Sam Cook currently with figures of 11-9-9-5 for Essex vs Notts. Seems odd that he doesn't ever seem to be on England's radar, especially for home games. He averages 19 in first class cricket.

Brook clearly frustrated by having to sit and wait to bat for three days having had the winter off. Currently on 83 off 53 against Leicestershire in what is a pure quest to get all the batting points they can.

Finished with 6-14.
19 is a ridiculous first class average even if he is a horses for courses bowler. Don't know much about the history of which recent English bowlers would have a better record than that without ever being selected for test cricket.

Ben Coad averages 20 but he's clearly a notch short of the quality/pace required (no shame in that).

I think Cook is a fair bit better than that. Possibly has a chance this year with no Broad, Jimmy possibly not able to play every single Test, patience seeming to run thin with Robinson, Archer definitely not back any time soon, Mahmood with a lot of work to do to get back into the picture and Potts kind of on the edge.

I think this is a long hard summer for Worcs, but good to see a decent start with the bat at the very least.
