The Golf Thread

Johnny suggested we get together for a round at the forest game. It'd be great if we could, we didn't manage last year.
I'm pretty flexible from june onwards if peeps want to think about planning anything?

I'd be up for a round - club I'm at (Lutterworth) might be a trek for you, but you're more than welcome.

I think Del suggested Aston pines once which wouldn't be so bad but happy to go with the flow.

Got a few things on in June, but reasonably flexible.
No worries. I've a fair amount of freedom between 15 June to end of august, so we can be flexible.

Somewhere accessible for all will be fine by me. I just hope the weather is nice!

Likewise.

Do we want to pin down a date & venue? Or narrow things down a bit? Or shall we do that in about a month?

The sooner we can get a date in the diary the better for me, as I can arrange future meetings around it rather than struggling to make the date as we get nearer.

Well as you 2 need to get a date in the diary can you 2 put some dates up?

Yep. Ideally I'd like to avoid mondays & saturdays, but as Johnny says, pop up some options for us to discuss & confirm.
From 15 June I'll have a lot of scope to book annual leave if we go for a weekday. Sundays are do-able for me too.

Weekdays works better for me as I like to spend weekends with the kids.

I can do any day in June after the 15th.

My employer is allowing me to book one or two days most weeks between now and late august, and I have 2 spare days too. Employer is also being nice, telling me I can move the day off during the week if needed (providing there is cover).

Played hill top today - first time I've had a club in my hands since last sept, so absolutely delighted to get an 85.

Great performance by Jordan Spieth to win in the end, and then his acceptance speech was tremendous as well. He goes up in my estimation enormously for his words.

Well said Paddy. The lad shows absolute class time after time. I'm surprised when i see people who don't like him because it shows they obviously haven't listened to him. He deserves every success imo.

It's difficult to but your finger on really. It's definitely image, and partly because I think a few years ago we all hoped Rory was basically born to sweep all before him. He came bursting on the scene, a tiny little cooled spring of mischief with Dennis The Mennis hair, with a swing that looked as athletic, technically brilliant, but also full of joy. There's scarcely a sight better than seeing Rory almost bouncing down the fairway after a booming draw. He just makes it look fun. And like when he was late for the ryder cup tee off, police escorts and all, I just thought 'he'll get to the tee, chomping on a mars bar, lash his drive down there and then call his playing partner a bitch. Cos it's Rory, and deep down he's just kinda like us. Like we all thought of rooney a few years ago. A working class kid with a got given talent, but that crucial gift - you could see him still going to the range with his mates, or having a kick about on Asda car park or whatever.

Spieth burst on like he was literally a robot designed by the pga to stop Rory. And regardless of the fact that he's since (and definitely helped by his humanising master's blow outs) actually seemed like a nice bloke, he's still not *Rory*. Or Tiger. Or like the kind of character that dominates a sport, but everybody still wants them to win. I don't dislike the kid anymore, but I still can't warm to him

Watched Ian Poulter's superb win in the Houston Open yesterday - critical for him as that was the only remaining way he would get to play at Augusta

A lot of credit to Beau Hossler who is no age at all for pushing him all the way & losing with grace & humility despite have an absolute disaster at the first play off hole - not always a given with Americans.

Some tremendous golf on show - looking forward to thursdays Augusta start

Ok, Sergio won't be repeating his victory this year. Took a 13 at the 15th hole. THIRTEEN.

Assuming this stat to be correct, Rory's last 4 results when he was in top 5 after day one of major? Win Win Win Win.

I went for Fleetwood each way, so need him to kick on today.
