The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

“I know his agent well and he’s always asked if we’d be interested in Sam. This has been coming in some way or another for a while.”

Hobbs when we signed Johnstone.

That particular agent also represents David Brooks, Tommy Doyle, Rob Edwards, Troy Parrott, Jonathon Rowe, Michael Cooper, Tommy Conway, Ché Adams, Dara O'Shea, Harrison Reed & Ryan Giles...
Absolutely mental, really. We all think there’s some really complicated/technical and in depth approach used - but no. Turns out Hobbs is mates with an agent so he just called them up and asked for players.

Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if many of those links (to the likes of Parrott, Adams, O’Shea etc) were leaked by the agent.

Let's be honest, it's no different to Shi & Mendes.
Just the quality is, well very very shit.

We moved on from Jorge controlling our incomings to end up with the agent who has lower end Championship players on his books. Glorious isn't it.

It's only from reading the rest of this thread that I've come to realise the part in bold wasn't a joke.

This explains so much of the regime under Hobbs. An over-promoted scout deciding our transfer strategy based on recommendations of an agent that represents Championship-level mediocrity.

The only surprise is that we didn’t end up with Rob Edwards as manager, Johnstone as no1 with O'Shea as captain, Reed in midfield and Adams and Parrott up front!

I bet Hobbs got some nice kickbacks on Doyle and Johnstone, no wonder he got fatter and fatter.

We’re hardly going to announce in June that we’re binning a load of dross thereby ensuring any club interested in Hwang or Guedes can play hard ball over the fee.

Or after Jeff stiffs Vitor over signings and he walks mid November, and we then get relegated. Doyle will then be perfect for us back in the Championship.

Why would we sanction a loan? Tell them the price and let them fight over it. Clubs already have data on him in both the Championship and the Prem nowadays.

Yeah he might have a good season and they want to buy him afterwards but why risk him having a poor season and no-one wanting him?

Sell him while the interest is there IMO.

If his wages are covered in full, then 2 outcomes of a loan.

1) Great season and doubles/triples the value we paid for him
2) Crap season, didn't cost us any money and won't lose much, if anything on the £5m fee.

Selling now, if we say £10m then likely he stays with us, doesn't play, we pay him and his value potentially dips unless he gets a loan in January.

I can see the logic behind a loan. I doubt Blues will be desperate enough to go all Stansfield on us to get him permanently

I'd be happy with a loan with an option to buy at a high price. We shouldn't really need the money right now to do the business we want to do in this window, especially if we're also looking to sell Hwang, Guedes, Johnstone, Boubacar, Hoever etc.

At his age and experience he should be looking to dominate at Championship level, he'd be worth so much more than he is now after a season like that.

Agrees, there's only so high his value can reach in the Championship. He's not going to be turning into Modric.

Could say MGW having a good loan at Sheff Utd in the Championship meant we got a decent fee for him.

Fabio has spent the last year doing something that has attracted clubs to suddenly want to sign him and might actually get us semi decent money.

If Doyle goes on loan it needs to be in the Championship. A season at Sunderland could potentially be a disaster for the player and our plans for him

MGW was impacting games with goal involvements though, that catches eyes and adds value. Being tidy but unspectacular carries much less upside imo

All he needs to do is stand out a bit. Doesnt need to be a world beater.
