The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

World fucking wide there's probably only about 20 clubs more attractive than us and we're not even shopping in the same market as about 15 of them.

Most of the PL, say 15 plus big three in Spain, two Milan clubs, Juventus, Napoli, Bayern, Dortmund, PSG. Add in Benfica, Porto and Sporting and it’s well over 20. Part of the problem we have is that the top teams in other leagues offer European football and the exposure it brings, so whilst we might(!) pay more the career path is better at a lot of other teams.

Porto lost their starting striker to Bournemouth though this time last year. There is a way for a Prem team to have a pretty significant advantage, should they choose that.

I'd say 30 at a push then. But well over half of them are not shopping for the same players.

David Moyes made a good point a couple of days ago when he was asked about Everton’s struggles. They’re shopping in a similar pool to us, but most decent players these days want European football. This season it’s even harder than usual for those without, as about half the PL have some sort of European football to look forward to!

Still a self inflicted situation if we hadn’t put ourselves into managed decline from 2021 onwards we’d be more attractive as a club.
Sadly so many of our clueless fanbase (not you) buy the crap that this situation is just the natural cycle and nothing can be done.
Trying their best probably but as Sean Connery says in the rock “losers always harp on about their best”

17 days people until the start, if you’re going on the 01/09 mantra you’re a clown.
Simple 3 games burnt by then
Need time to bed in when most will be away on international duty.
Probably won’t be up to speed until 7-8 games in.
If you blatantly know it’s going to be a mass exodus come April/May you need to be far better prepared.
Keep going on about targets missed etc and wanting to recruit but if you’re incapable of getting deals done it’s damming indictment.

and plenty of other clubs in the same situation, it's not just a Wolves thing

(Not defending our business/actions btw even i wanted more than what we have so far.)

Plenty other clubs not getting much business done, yes, but plenty of other clubs with as long a shopping list having sold their two most attacking players?
(Brentford also, ofc...)

Villa Newcastle and Palace say hi.

I’d say our position is more pressing considering how low down we finished in the table.

Half of the reason for that position is gone, though.

I still can’t convince myself that we’ll be in the same danger this season, assuming we don’t piss off VP and he walks in August.

Edit: fuckin’ ninja’d, God dammit 😂

A team that has lost 3 nailed on 1st team starters, gutted the bench which was already quite shallow…and replaced them with an inexperienced kid, Arias who could be anything, a youth team player, and two coming back from serious long term injuries. Were in as bad, if not worse, situation than the start of last season.

I am convinced we will be in the same danger unless things improve quickly.

Bournemouth have almost lost their defence i guess. PSG ready to take another one away.

Brentford, one forward and another fucked off he can't go, plus a manager replaced by someone with zero experience.

Palace may lose Eze and Guehi with Arsenal and Liverpool sniffing around.

West Ham dont appear to have done anything to address their issues

Everton, Moyes reckons they need another 5-8 players in.

I guess we have replaced Cunha with Arias, not a clue how he will do. Very surprised a RAN replacement hasn't come in yet.
We all know we had a RWB, but we got out muscled by a major club there.
We put ourselves on the back foot, again, with another change in direction. Is Vitor targeting players we are going to struggle to get, is Jeff keeping a tight grip on the ££.
We could have secured Brooks and whoever else Hobbs was going to throw the odd £10m at i guess.
Whatever way you look it, it's a standard transfer window for us as we have have no idea what's going on. Thankfully a few other clubs joining in the fun so far.

Agree with what @Kenny has said but there. Are we pitching our targets too high so will be left high and dry once a major team comes in for them but may have a chance the longer the window goes on?

Villa Newcastle and Palace say hi.
Palace have signed the same number of players as us, but without selling their biggest stars. Also tricky for them given the uncertainty about what European tournament they’ll be in. So I sympathise with them to a degree.

Newcastle are having a stinker so far, but they’ll soon splash the cash.

Really? offload your biggest goal threat and contributions in Cunha, Bin off both WB one who creates a lot going forward the other is club captain and neither are replace yet.
I’ll put this bluntly VP did a great job however let’s break it down a bit.
Under him he still lost to Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Fulham, Brighton and Palace. Disposed of most the dross or sides otherwise occupied.
He would’ve had a few more points than GON but we’d still have struggled. The squad was still limited massively last season.
Signing Arias and Lopez aren’t guarantees and very much carry a risk.
Also considering that the promoted 3 won’t be as hopeless this time around. VP can only do so much, removing some of his best players isn’t going to help.
