I think you may be right, but let's be honest, it doesn't just take weddings, tragedies and funerals for the club comms and transfer business to be highly questionable

Which is why we should have had a decision by the time the season ended, so it was clear for all parties where they stood. And even more so as 'life' can get in the way.

But if he does sign a new contract i won't be considering him a new signing either unless i want to obtusely prove some strange point in the future

With the players back this week and no idea of who will be their captain again, i just think it's an unnecessary position we put ourselves in, one that could have been easily resolved by now.

Deadlines are set in all walks of life, and in nearly every job at every level.

It's ok to say, "Nels deserves to take his time" - but it works both ways.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. My opinion is, it should have been sorted by now. It's another completely avoidable situation and position we've put ourselves in, when we already have a crazy amount of work to do to improve the playing squad.

Football is a team game, where you can be greater than the sum of your parts, a captain is a significant part of that, and a club like us need good strong leadership more than most.

Probably the last couple of weeks are less likely to make him want to stay and choose money over being around home etc - assuming Benfica still have an offer on the table.

And in due course we will have a captain. If Semedo doesn’t want to sign we can’t make him and we’ll have to choose a new captain. Not really sure what your point is? Do we offer even more to Semedo? Do we go and buy new player to be captain?
