Being hijacked by CL regulars isn’t to be embarrassed about, not resolving the issue would be though.
It’s no secret that the big clubs let the smaller clubs do all the creative recruitment and scouting then hijack signings or pick them off once they’ve proved themselves in the relevant leagues.

It’s not about Marc Pubill deciding to sign for Atletico Madrid over Wolves at the 12th hour and anyone who thinks that’s what I’m saying is reading what they want, rather than what I’ve put.

It’s about us being run like a fucking clown show. It’s levels of incompetence that have followed us around for window after window for a few years now. It’s about not having a defined plan in place or learning lessons.

And if you choose to criticise the club (or specifically Jeff Shi), you get patronised and told to stop “pantwetting”. Or told to “wait until the end of the window”. Or “you can’t blame the club”. Or whatever the next line is.

Eventually you have to arrive at a conclusion that if these things keep happening, someone’s a bit shit at their job.

Would anyone be genuinely surprised if Hoever is our RWB v City at this point? “We tried but it was a tough window”. And best of all, people would still defend it

For the avoidance of doubt I think it's a stupid situation. We have a manager who wants to play wing backs and we don't have any that I consider anywhere near up to the task (Lima might be one day, I don't think it's Rodrigo's game personally, I want him higher up the pitch).

Pick your battles though because here it looks like they're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't. They went for a player, a much bigger club signed him in the end. That shouldn't invoke rage.

Obviously you’ve got people leaping to the defence of the club (such a weird stance when we are an absolute clown show, but is what it is) - but he didn’t seem like he wanted to come here from the initial day our interest broke and it always seemed like he was holding out for something better. Got his wish in the end with the interest from Milan and ultimately, Atletico Madrid.

But once again, it’s us who look like the laughing stock and once again, we’re left to rifle down our list of targets as the season creeps closer and closer.

Those defending the club now are the same people who were defending us for letting Nels do whatever the hell he wanted for the sake of “loyalty”. The same Nels who dragged things out as long as humanly possible until Vítor finally decided enough is enough and told us to get on and sign someone. As I said weeks ago, we should have set a date for a final decision from Semedo by the end of the season/start of the window so everyone knew exactly where we stood. We could have secured Pubill weeks ago if he was our top target (or been beaten to his signing by someone else) - but at least we’d have known where we were and would have moved on already.

If they’d been in this situation at least a couple of weeks ago it would be more understandable. As it is we’ve allowed Semedo to be uncommitted and now are well into pre-season and still without a RWB.

I'm surprised people are surprised. Pubill has said from the start he wants to go there, it was just a matter of when Athletico offered enough money. We were very much a fall back option for him.
