The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

The problem with transfer sagas that drag on like with the JSL one is that tweets drop all the time regarding the progress to date ,driven by agent talk and talk from the buying club . In both cases they want the move to happen for their own vested interests .
Quotes drop from both about what the player thinks - in some cases ( Isak ) , it is obvious that the player is very keen and the player's behaviour confirms this .
In other cases I would question their word , especially when said player is continuing to play happily for their existing club .

JSL is probably quite happy to play for us this season , but it is no harm for him at all to make other clubs aware that at some stage in the future he might fancy a move to a trophy winning team , and thereby ensure that other clubs are watching him and keeping him in their thoughts and not just always looking outside the PL .
Another 16-20 goal season therefore would ensure that they will come knocking next Summer , at which point we might be prepared to sell .

In other words you can both be happy as a player to stay and perform well , and look over the hedge as well just to see what is out there and form a view about where you might like to be in say 2 years time .

None of us know if he's happy to stay now? And it's not about 2 years time...he'd have been gone in 2 days time if the club hadn't turned the offers down

All I can say is if he stays and scores at weekend I hope he doesn’t do a Cunha and celebrate by mimicking signing a contract the fraud

JSL is no Cunha in terms of his behaviour - or at least all indications are that he is not , thus far .

Will be very interesting to see how Cunha gets on at United if the goals don't come and the club are struggling .

I'm not convinced at all that he wasn't just been used to get another player . We see where Newcastle are now moving for a German player and the deal appears to be done - that means that they have been in discussions with his people for a while .

Very hard to know what the real truth is at this stage . I'm just happy that for now JSL is not throwing his toys out of the pram and is getting on with it .

In terms of ourselves , I'd welcome another striker - if it is that lad from Gent, then let's get him in . We need a midfielder as well , and I'd be happy with that - that would bring the incomings to 6 , and then you have the departures of Fabio and Guedes . There were other departures as well ( permanent and loan ) , less high profile ones but important for both the club and players . We will also possibly see other loan departures too in the remaining days .

Not a bad window at all - all things considered ( assuming there are no shocks between now and Monday ) .

Up to Vitor now to knock a tune out of them .

Tchatchoua's pace should open some doors, but would definitely be preferable to get something creative in midfield and also in one of the more advanced roles (which tbf does seem to be our goal)

Yep, we definitely need another midfielder before the window closes. We’re horribly short in that area and Gomes/Andre WILL pick up suspensions/injuries.

On Hackney, has anyone seen much of him? I saw bits at the Euro U21s in the summer but didn’t notice anything special. Anderson and Elliott were the stand out performers from midfield/attacking midfield.

Don't know much about him but seems highly rated in the Champ and very much their star player.

Think Lycan and YW mentioned him earlier in the thread so they may have a view

His pace will be more effective if we have a player who can thread passes into space for him to run onto. This is certainly not a strong point for Andre or Gomes.

Hackney would make a lot of sense for us. Different to the other two in that he makes a lot of forward passes, would come as competition but not expect to start straight away and when either Andre/Joao both go we have a midfielder ready to step up. Home grown too.

And if we went down we know he’s good at that level..

I think he'd be good competition for both CM roles, he can drop to collect the ball from the goalkeeper & centre backs like André or further forward and whichever one of those roles he plays he'd bring something a bit different to what we've got in that position already.

He seems like a good professional as well, works very hard and has always looked in good condition whenever I've seen him. He's not amazing physically but he can certainly hold his own.

I'll admit I'm significantly less enthusiastic about Tolu than Uche, even though I haven't really seen much at all of either player. Uche seemed like a good fit to cover both left 10 and striker whereas Tolu seems like a striker only. It'd definitely leave us a little short if we had to rely on Bellegarde/Munetsi/Hwang on the left as Arias & López are right sided players.

I'm also a little wary of 6"6 strikers from Belgium after Tall Paul at Southampton last year.

Do you think this nods towards us going two up top with Arias in behind?

It's not going to work every time, but was pretty effective the other night v West Ham. I do agree we could still do with another Uche style option - it doesn't look like we'll get one now, though.
