The Velotard Thread.

If you’re running a camera report online at operation snap, you’re right though, compared to other forces west mids seem to be lagging behind

Starmer strikes me as more a Vauxhall Cavalier kind of man.

Pretty sure that’s a 5.0 V8 Carpathian Edition Discovery. Bling central. Going to trigger an awful lot of people driving around in that at it is, never mind the appalling arrogance of parking it wherever you like. Get out of the way poor people.

I did like it to be truthful, the satin on the wings and doors with the gloss black wheels looked amazing but can understand why people would hate it. Wouldn’t own one though even if I could afford it as it must come with a whole lot of ownership grief. Probably admiring looks and looks of disgust in equal measure I’d imagine.

Looks like there’s not quite enough room on the passenger side to squeeze through wihout your brake lever coming into contact.

Average speeds tend to be much lower on MTB’s with twisty trails, rough terrain and so on, but fired up the afterburners on a tarmac downhill section this morning and hit my all-time max speed. Pretty chuffed about that.

How was that for you? once did 56mph coming down from the Spitzingsattel (14%) on my road bike back in 2010 - needless to say, as I hit that speed II did question wtf I was doing, and was relieved when I made it down to the bottom. Don't mind riding it again fitness permitting but not at those speeds.

Is that Komoot you're using?

Bloody hell, 56, at those sort of speeds even an extra 1 mph takes some doing (balls). Must say at 44 it still felt very stable and surprisingly safe but on the Mtb with a 30t front ring just ran out of gears. It wasn’t especially steep and definitely felt could’ve gone quicker with a larger sprocket or steeper hill but that said, you are still aware one mistake, a mechanical….

Box Hill round here is the famous one due to its inclusion in the 2012 Olympics and is the most ridden on Strava apparently, but it’s not actually especially steep and is only relatively short blasts between hairpins with no room to really get moving. I only got to 36mph on there and was anticipating way more.

Would like one last crack going all out, maybe a steeper hill, or changing the front ring or doing both. Not sure why, seems daft really but it was one hell of an adrenaline rush and quite addictive. 56 though, that’s next level 👊

Edit: Yes Komoot, most people seem to use Strava but I just find it pretty good for trail planning especially.

44 is plenty, sometime more can't helped but just below 40 is quite nice - not that it makes much difference should you have a mechanical, which was going through my mind when i hit the 90kmh.

My mates are all on strava but I've gone with 12 months Komoot because they've got a lot of gravel rides which is what I tend to prefer now, and I can at least keep up with them on the road as long as they don't hammer it. Planned a 6 day transalp with Komoot recently, now just need to persuade the g/f (hates biking) or my son to tag along. Only 60 odd km a day so shouldn't be any kind of struggle :D

Box Hill looks like a nice ride, not too steep but maybe a bit short.
