It must be nice to never, ever, ever be wrong
Oh there is plenty I've been wrong on. When I saw Nuno playing Coady as a CB in pre-season I thought we might have a manager who didn't have a clue. I thought we could easily replace Jota with Neto and not miss a beat. For a fleeting few weeks I thought Gary O'Neil might be an alright manager. I thought Bellegarde was absolute rubbish. I was wrong on all counts.
What I know with absolute 100% certainty from being politically aware and active for 40 years, is that the far right:
1. Do not give a fuck about democracy and the rule of law.
2. They are willing to use violence, intimidation, brutality, and lies to achieve their aims.
3. Trump's regime is absolutely far right in words and deeds.
4. They will do everything to prevent democratic methods from getting rid of them. Trump openly said as much in his campaign when he actually said "Don't worry, you won't need to vote again".
5. The opposition needs to wake up to this and wake up fast because it will be too late pretty fucking quickly.
6. T-shirts with funny slogans and selling quiche at a bake sale will not get rid of them.
7. Huge numbers of people on the streets in protest will. Maybe the weight of numbers will be enough. Maybe not, and those people protesting will need to prepare for violence because the fascists will use it.
It isn't what people want to believe, because we have been used to democracy being a solution. I'm not sure in this case it will be.
But you know what? I really, really hope I'm as wrong on this as I was on O'Neil.
