His PR staff are doing a great job of mocking trump, which has really improved his popularity. If dems had to choose a presidential candidate today he would win hands down.
Personally I would prefer Buttigieg, but both would face hurdles attracting republican voters - one is gay and one from California.

Should add that I like Buttigieg for his intelligence and willingness to engage in discourse with those holding opposing views. These are not considered positive qualities in the modern world.
