Wolves 0-2 Brighton: Verdict Thread

We had hollow performances back then too (horseshoe of doom?) and rarely played games with nothing to play for. One off situations don’t put anything to bed. A strange point to make.
We've just had a freaky fixture list this season which has lead to exaggerated statements and unusual streaks both ways. Our first 9 games were against the teams currently in the Top 9, the 6 before City the bottom 6 other than ourselves. That's just bizarre, even if you'd expect to pick points up in the former and drop them in the latter

At the moment we are a middling PL side capable of good performances and damp squibs. Nuno's side finished back to back 7ths, this side wouldn't even with Vitor having a full season.

Think that’s 4 straight home defeats in the league to them.
Always been a bogey side even when they’ve had poor sides.
Managed 4 points out of us in 2018/2019 when we outplayed them twice.
As for today it’s evident that VP has done a very good job at disposing all the crap in the league and sides with their eyes elsewhere.
We’re still very short of the better sides in the league.

Agree with the broader point, but we also played some grim stuff under Nuno. Against Brighton no less

League was in a different state then and we were up against the super 6 being a lot better plus Leicester getting in the top 6 too.
This side is probably just in a par position now 11th at a push.

In the Summer Wolves need another number 9 of some sort. Strand Larsen is the main man but when he is out you can't have chances like Guedes playing. Like playing with 10 men.
We have Sasa. Whether he can stay fit is another matter.

Very much a season fizzling out, job done, best holiday destinations performance.
Shame.

Didn’t get the opportunity to respond to my in match post, so to at least offer an explanation, none of the teams mentioned have had absolutely no impact in either the FA or Carabo cup this season with the sole objective of filing a premier league berth between 8th and 13th. That’s not ambitiion.
If by the odd fluke they did manage to finish in a European spot then I for one would not waste my Thursday evenings.
They are turgid
In saying that we for most of this season have huffed and puffed, and it was the same today. Very similar to Fulham, Newcastle, and Forest for example where there’s nothing between the teams but they wait for a fuck up and were then chasing the game.
We have never had a game this season where we’ve stolen a scrawny point where others have, this is where we need to mature as a team and not be naive.
With the foundations of the likes of Agbadou, Gomes, Andre, the opportunity is there, we just need to be more streetwise against ‘similar’ opposition, and hopefully the close season signings will achieve this.
We were off today and other than those mentioned no one really got anything above a 5 out of 10.
They just waited for us to tire and they picked us off in the last 20 minutes …. That’s being streetwise.
MOM for me Andre

Have a good evening everyone

Well one of the teams you called out are in the Cup final next week, so that's obviously rubbish.

The club you support are run by a guy who last season went on record as saying if you want success then this club isn't for you and that in our 6th season we needed to adopt the mentality of a promoted club. That approach of being content to stay up continued into this season, hence the lack of Summer incomings. Yet you have the brassneck to call out other sides for lacking ambition. Christ almighty

Brighton, Palace, Bournemouth and Fulham all went further than us in the cup this season.

We’re a bottom 6/7 team. I don’t see that changing.
Depends how we spend the Cunha money. We have potential under Vitor to be mid-table/top 10. All comes down to recruitment.

In terms of size and place I think 8 clubs are now a fair way ahead of everybody else. You are relying on them being badly run for them to not finish in those positions as is the case with 2 of them this season. After that any of the established PL teams of which with 8 seasons in a row you'd have to say we are, it comes down to nouse, ambition, recruitment and a touch of luck. If you told me any of those teams were going to finish 9th next season or finish 3rd from bottom then it wouldn't surprise me. All have a pathway to both

That was garbage.

Guedes should just hang his boots up...

Far too casual for my liking for large portions of the game... no real urgency either to try and get something out of the match.

Really disappointing...I was expecting more today.

Didn't think it was that bad tbh. It wasn't exactly good, but I certainly wouldn't say it was 'garbage'. Just always over complicating it in the final 3rd, taking too many touches. Didn't help starting with Guedes who is as threatening as Thomas the Tank Engine on dope.

Our pressing was decent, especially in the first half with a good response to conceding and we worked it into some good areas. Just a shame we looked a bit toothless up front and didn't create enough.

Otherwise it was pretty uninspiring, some clangers in and around our own box didn't help.

But I'm not going to be too harsh on the team - I've seen us play way worse than that and come away with something. I certainly don't think it's fair to belittle our recent run just because we were a bit below par today. It happens - we'll come back from it.

I think we'll immediately have more about us when JSL plays from the start which seems to help so many players around him and we look a lot better for it.

I'm very conflicted about Cunha.. When he's on his game he's the literal definition of a game changer. When he's not, he doesn't other anything else and does not integrate well with the team.

As a team, we've outgrown him in a weird way.

Not much in the game. But you cannot carry deadweights like Guedes, what an abysmal specimen he is. Gets given a chance (undeserved) and sends out that. Fuck off, our worst signing of all time.

We are 2-3 players from being where Brighton are.

Thought we were brave today. We could've sat back in a low block against them, tried to frustrate and grab a point but we decided to play our game. We like to press high, Brighton like to play through a high press or go long over the top of a high line, we took that risk and paid for it.

I thought we were the better team for the first 15 until Sá spannered that pass into their central midfield. After that we looked like we were playing within our shell, always worried about what they could do to us instead of trying to impose our game on them.

In terms of our missed chances we should've done better after Sarabia played that lovely ball in behind to Aït-Nouri, Cunha was unlucky with the chance which Verbruggen saved to his left and Bellegarde should score when the ball comes back to him off of Munetsi.

Agba, Toti & André all had very good games. Our quality clearly dropped off after the substitutions were made though, we definitely need to upgrade several players in forward areas even before we start to worry about what we miss when we don't have Cunha.
