Boris at it again and the contest to replace the lying c***

Red, white and blue tv

I mean, "It's A Sin" was clearly British and probably the most impactful TV I've seen in years, but for some reason that doesn't make the list of British TV put forward...

Not once have I watched TV and thought Britain isn't represented by broadcasters.

Depends whether they realise Northern and Southern Ireland are different countries. I mean we have a NI Secretary who didn't know that Sinn Fein and SDLP voters were predominantly Catholic

Presume Mind Your Language will be recommissioned. Let's laugh at those foreigners and their funny accents
He's making a point, but very badly.

He wants more shows like Derry Girls, Blackadder and Mock the Week (and I presume the fantastic It's a Sin) rather than identikit bollocks streamed on some platforms.

It's just his speech is awful and should have said original rather than British.

The article isn't about bringing back garbage like the ones you've listed for the reasons you've tried to get a cheap gag out of.

There plenty this government can be smashed on but this isn't one of them.

If there is a GE soon, I'd consider voting Labour instead of my usual Green Party. Purely to get this lumbering clown out of office.
Well hopefully Labour will actually consider working with the other parties next time, to ensure less Tory seats.

Its all a load of headline grabbing bollocks. How can you define Britishness and stick it into some legal framework that the TV companies have to abide by?

Its government by focus groups/opinion polls and appealing to their own supporters. Want to pay for social care and protect the assets of those who have the most, then fund it in a way that hits those with such assets the least. Want to do a cabinet reshuffle then lets look at who isn't popular amongst our fan base and get rid. Want to change TV so it appeals to our fan base then put someone like Dacre in charge of Offcom. When Dacre gets kicked out of the process as he doesn't meet the criteria then run the process again and to feck with those who did. Worried about the independence of a Committee into the Standards in Public Life, get an ex mate on there.

Yet look at todays press coverage as Johnson wields the axe, ruthless cull, sweeps outs, sacks blunderers yet the truth of the matter is that if he had anything about him he'd have got rid of the chumps who failed us all so miserably when they had fucked up and not a few months/years later.

I think it's more likely that the NI rise will have upset people. "People" aren't bothered about their general incompetence, as the last couple of years has proven. But when you hit people in their pocket....
True. I'd bet alot of the people that pay zero attention to the news don't even realise they are going to be worse off yet.

It's the same as Brexit. Trying to explain the fundamentals of freedom of movement doesn't hit home, people aren't interested. It's too theoretical (even if it actually really, really, really does matter).

They'll soon be interested when passport queues at airports are ridiculous and roaming fees are reintroduced across the board, as was always blatantly going to happen on both counts.

That's absolutely correct but the depressing reality is that cognitive dissonance will mean they won't make the connection to Brexit and the fact they were conned.

I'm seeing this alot, people doing all sorts of complex mental gymnastics finding obscure reasons why things that are obviously related to Brexit aren't, whilst at the same time jumping on the slightest positive as evidence that Brexit has been a fantastic success and "project fear" was all nonsense.

The roaming fees will be the greedy mobile firms and the passport queues will be the EU punishing us for leaving, thus proving we were right to leave in the first place. I just don't bother talking about it with people I know now, it's too frustrating.

No, that's exactly the point he was making. The soundbite plays well to the audience it was intended for

..but why mention Carry on Films?
As I said it's a stupid soundbite to trigger people. Which it clearly has. His main point is about original programming for Britain which is a fair point. Sky pollute their schedules with dire US shite and the BBC produce some right dreck not fit for purpose. Using the British thing was ill advised and probably some Spad's idea to get clicks and noticed.

I'm pretty sure the MP's just been binned too.

I agree with your point that this populist crap needs to stop and that the government are nothing but opportunists to keep themselves in power and syphon off billions for themselves and that should be the story.

Sky have never been owned by anyone from the UK, it was Murdoch and now it's Comcast, they're under no obligation to do anything.

If the Government really want the BBC to up their game (and in all honesty, they produce a lot of very good home grown stuff across all their channels) then maybe they should stop defunding them and appointing complete cunts in charge of Media/Culture who think it'd be better if they just did as they were told 100% of the time.

I mean you never know, we could get a political editor who doesn't just parrot whatever No 10 wants. Imagine.

I have criticised the said political editor as much as most but at least last night she got close to calling out Johnson for what he is...

It's a Johnson cabinet, with no particular bent towards any one faction or tribe. For some of his backers, that is one of Mr Johnson's attributes - he's not wedded to principle, but staying on top. For other Tories, that's rather the problem - with no one strong ideology other than a desire to win, it begs the question of what it's all really for.
