A jolly good read?

Started reading Game of Thrones on Thursday, I'm already 200 pages in. I'm not one for the Fantasy Epic genre usually, but this is utterly brilliant. I find it sticking in my craw to be agreeing so wholeheartedly with Langdale...

I'm on part 1 of book 3 in the series and it gets better and better..I do love to hate Cersei.

Mr's Rov has bought me a Kindle for my Birthday next week, recommendations for downloading welcome thanks.

I am considering a Kindle, but not sure how to download books, so when you are up and running with it Mr Rovert, please tell me what it is like. For instance, can you read it in bright sunlight?

Early days yet Frank but well pleased at the moment, downloading is easy, register with Amazon, find a book, download, loads of classics are free.

Pleased you like it.

My wife and my dad both hated it and thought it was naff writing. I disagree - I'm halfway through book 2 and I think it's great. I am trying to get through the lot before A Clash Of Kings starts on Sky next spring. I'm not a particularly swift reader so it could be a challenge.

Squeeze has been good lately so I treated her to a Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows. Takes her up to the new hardback. It is superb stuff and I think very well written.

Are they the two books that make up Part 3 of the series?

Fevre Dream by George RR Martin is a brilliant book as well. I read it a long time ago but I couldn't face another fantasy series at the time Thrones started. Anyone read the Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe?

Paddy has - he says it's epic. I'm sure he'll be along in a bit to give you his mindless ramblings.

Wow - A Clash Of Kings has become REALLY exciting!! It's taken a while to build up, but it's really gripping me now. I won't post any spoilers - but I cannot wait to see this on telly next year.

Oh, something that isn't a spoiler - they've cast Stannis Baratheon - he's being played by Stephen Dillane.

Finished reading The architecture of Happiness by Alain de Botton. Really interesting book, that gave me quite a lot to think about, especially in relation to stuff like home decor, layout, & buildings I frequent.

Last night I finished reading Filth by Irvine Welsh. Read a few welsh books years ago. Trainspotting is a great book imo - not like the film. I always think the film is like a remix of the book. Anyhow, have to say that I really got into the narrative of Filth and really enjoyed it.

Currently trying really hard what to pick as a next book.

Great book, couldn't put it down when I read the bugger - reignited my belief in him as an author, I thought Porno was a good read too

Read a few of Irvine Welsh's books and generally think they are pretty poor to be honest. Trainspotting, Marabou Stork Nightmares and Filth: I thought they were all average at best, with MSN being an utter load of tosh.

Each to their own, I personally found Filth a very powerful piece of literature.

Haven't read much fantasy after reading that about 20 years ago! definitely epic.

Late to the thread, and I'll admit that I haven't read through it, so forgive me if I duplicate anything.

The Madman's Tale - John Katzenbach
Portrait of a Serial Killer - Patricia Cornwell (Must for Jack the Ripper enthusiasts)
Crippen - John Boyne
Vampire World Trilogy - Brian Lumley (fucking amazing)
American Psycho - Brett Easton Ellis
The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova

My favourite Stephen King novels are; Christine, It, The Shining, Salem's Lot.
