Best holiday destinations

Just last weekend decided to look into snatching a few nights away before the madness of the school summer holidays. Given the habit of low-cost airlines booting off your nice flights to ones with crappier times buggering up your schedules was just planning the usual Airbnb in the Peak District.

Someone mentioned easyJet holidays where apparently you’re less likely to get switched to a different flight as it’s a package with the hotel as well so decided to have a gander. Dunno if that’s true but have taken a punt and off to Turkey tomorrow. Hotel looks very nice to be fair, room only but then so is an Airbnb, and with everything factored in actually about 50 quid cheaper to go abroad.

Greta won’t be happy and the hotel might be all turkey teeth, hair weaves and nose jobs, but at that kind of value can’t blame people for giving it a go.

Scottish schools have already broken up and Leicestershire schools this week so your break might not be child friendly.

Didn’t realise that but figured with it being that close anyway there’d be loads of kids about whose parents had pulled them out early.

Chose a not especially child friendly hotel to mitigate as much as possible, but always a compromise to be had. Some adults can be more annoying than a load of ten year olds though to be fair.

Mrs had an operation last month and the kids have decided it would be a good idea to send and share the cost for us to an all inclusive break to Rhodes, in a few weeks.

Haven't been abroad for various reasons for about 15 years, looking forward to just chilling and spending a
I would include some serious high factor sun lotion in your luggage.
40C here today, and Rhodes is much further south east. 😥

Oh and pagey, rhodes is brilliant, great beaches, little coves etc, but whatever you do, visit Rhodes old town, and have lunch or dinner in the centre at one of the rooftop resturaunts, brilliant atmosphere.

And take a photo in the tree on the way in. You'll know the one!

Any suggestions for child friendly sports bar in New York? Want to watch the Euros final on Sunday.

Stout will be a good one.

They have a couple but I was using the one on W33rd.

(Got me out of spending too much time in Macy's)

I fucking love Switzerland.
The ride to our air bnb in Innertkirchen from Geradmer on Monday was grim, rained all day and the night too. Since then we've had 3 glorious days culminating in a terrific ride over the Susten/Furka/Grimsel passes today.
Great scenery and plenty of cake on route.
The people are friendly and helpful, the whole country is spotless.
Yes it's a bit pricey but not that much more than here.
Black Forest tomorrow.

Was in Zurich recently, bit pricey is an understatement! But yes, from the limited bit I saw, Switzerland looked like a great country. Need to go back and do it properly

Yeah I'd expect the prices to be much higher in a city like Zurich, same as London compared to the countryside here.
We always stay somewhere out in the sticks.

We are off to the Fjords on Saturday for a week. We are sailing in the MSC Yacht Club.
This is thanks to a financial legacy from my Mum who loved a cruise. It’s a one off luxury and we will never be able to do it again.

MSC Yacht Club is an exclusive area on MSC Cruises that offers luxury accommodations, personalized service, and private amenities like a dedicated restaurant and pool deck. It provides a more refined cruising experience with features such as 24/7 butler service and priority access to various ship facilities.

We are looking forward to it…..and then it’s back to cottages in England with the dog! (Which we really love).

Just in the middle of planning a 2.5 week or so trip to Vietnam in October/November.

Any must see touristy type things to do? And equally, anything that is quite popular that isn't potentially worth the time/worth the effort?

I'd like to go and see Cu Chi Tunnel system, Ha Long Bay, potentially a trip to Dalat as it looks like an interesting city, but open to suggestions outside of that.

Anyone been to Split? Heading off on Thursday for 4 nights there and 3 on Korcula. Beginning to think that should’ve been the other way round and 4 is too much for Split, so with plenty of time to fill any recommendations always appreciated. Hajduk are away this weekend unfortunately 🙁

Not stayed in Split, but have visited having stayed nearby.

Trogir is fantastic - you can get lost in the walled city, but still only be 5 minutes from the edge. We took a ferry from Trogir to Split for the day, so I'm sure you can do the reverse. Beautiful journey across the bay.

The Park Marian in Split is magnificent. You could easily take the while day to trundle around and stop at various points. Just take lots of water as there are little, if any, opportunities for food/drink once you're out there.

The fortress at Klis is spectacular, even if you don't care a jot about Game of Thrones. You can combine it with a trip (one ticket) to the Stella Croatia olive farm/museum. We had a great lunch there and the oil is something else.

Plenty of easy ferries or managed boat trips from Split out to the islands that you should be able to do in a day. Bol is probably main one on Brac.

Some good shouts there, thanks. Staying only half a mile or so from the park so that’s a great heads up. Was planning an organised trip to Krka national park on one day but like the sound of the other places too. Will see how the city goes but sounds like there are some nice places reasonably close by so good to know the mainland time can be filled pretty easily. Cheers.

What an underrated guitar player and musician Tony Mcphee was.
Only died a couple of years ago after a fall following his stroke in 2009.
Spent part of his last years running a good open mic night at The Wrekin Inn, Wellington, Telford.
Indeed. An oft underrated muscian. I've seen the mighty Groundhogs more times than any other band.

Supposed to be heading back today but currently on a ferry to the mainland hospital where the better half needs an operation after breaking her leg last night.

Passing the time reading the small print of the travel insurance but not much chance of making work in the morning.

Croatia is very beautiful, just hoping the healthcare is the same but they have been very good so far have to say.
