Bournemouth (A) 23/8: Build-up & Match Thread

Yet another game where people are rolling out the excuses as to why the line up looks like it does.
Not excuses from me...looking for the reasoning behind it.

I dont want Hoever or Doc in the team but not getting bent out of shape over it. My reasoning may be well off but for my head, better than being angry about it.

Also Hoever probably had his best performance for Wolves last week it could crush him long term to not give him one last chance.
Whatever happens with Hoever, he can`t say he hasn`t had a decent chance to prove he deserves to be here.

He wouldn’t be on the bench then
They likely feel he can play but no more than a half hour or so at this stage. So, naturally, you bring him off the bench rather than sub him in the first half.

You’re making things sound so much simpler than they are.

This is the point he’s 23 and played over 100 games at various clubs so dealing with a set back is just part of the job.

Yeah, fuck a footballer’s feelings. No one’s career has ever been affected by a manager dicking them around.

Oh wait Kevin Foley’s career was practically ruined by that one Irish manager (Italian bloke, Trappatoni?). Guess he just wasn’t good enough to handle it. 🤷🏻

That’s top level sport for you, and if being dropped crushes you then top level sport isn’t for you it’s cut throat you have to show character.
Even at his best he’s not up to this level regardless.
Footballers are still human though, and giving him that vote of confidence today might result in a really good performance.

It's not all played on paper.

Come on. A player who has done ‘alright at Stoke’ and was ‘relatively blameless’ in a four zip home defeat while playing in defence is then crushed by being omitted because a signing has arrived from Serie A? I can see how he’s ended up in the starting XI, and sure hope he plays well, but I’m sure it wouldn’t have been terminal.

If he’s playing I’m sure VP is drawing the best conclusion. I’m just disappointed that this was it.

Not a fan of Hoever, but he was ok last week, bit dodgy first twenty mins against Doku, but otherwise ok.
Keep picking Bellegarde is more of a concern for me.
Offers zero.

Was looking forward to this but now I'm shitting myself. Ah Wolves, don't ever change.

Yep that’s exactly what I said wasn’t it, obviously a good manager would do it professionally. Plenty of other cases where players have fallen out of favour and bounced back.
You don’t keep playing people to be benevolent to them that’s just stupid.
If it’s explained to him in a professional manner then what else can you do.
Yep still disappointing for him but as I said that’s sport and life in general.

So you want Hoever in side v Everton? And are you suggesting being dropped for 1 game less will make all the difference?
