I'd say it's more of a marked drop off when he plays as the other two CMs we have are plain off the scale quality.

I'm not having an Edwards comparison! I've never seen Donck actively hide from the ball.

He's fine for games like yesterday where you just need an extra body in midfield against typically inferior teams. Bruno has learnt that from earlier in the season. Much as people like to lol about Neves and Moutinho not being able to play together that's never what it's been about. It's that they can get overrun in games against teams like Brentford who will put a physical 3 in there. Dave Jones used to annoy everyone with his phrase "you have to earn the right to play", but that's exactly what he does for us in games like that

We've got two midfielders playing for us of the quality I dreamt off for decades, what they can both do is truly exceptional and in part the reason why we are 8th.

Donk is obviously not on that scale, but he isn't as bad as made out, he's just not exceptional. He does OK for me and an important squad player.

I'm sure he's a lovely lad, and he doesn't lack for effort, but he's pretty shit at football, really. Nobody ever actively wants to play him, so he's not a 'good squad option'. Well if he is that's because we're fucking terrible at recruitment. He'd struggle for a starting spot outside of the bottom 6

Ah. I think someone shared a link recently (on here) and I was surprised by how much he was on. Was just going to say that I’m not surprised he doesn’t kick a fuss up. He’s on a great gig here! He could, of course, move somewhere else to become a regular starter. But I just don’t think he’s very good (at anything). As a squad player he’s fine, but he’s not going to get a move to a bigger club, for example, so he’s more than likely very happy here, on the wages he’s getting.

Tielemans signed for Monaco when we were in the Championship.

He also cost about double what we paid for Donck.

Would've been easier to simply have an inside forward playing than a relative passenger in centre mid to run into inside forward positions every now and again.

I think Donk’s problem is too many people judge him against Moutinho and Neves but when he plays with them he plays a completely different role. He covers far more ground and much of his work is off the ball and easily overlooked, and this is perfectly illustrated by thinking he’s usually a 4 or 5/10.

Just because we should be looking to upgrade him is no reason to make out he is worse than he is.

Ok you want useful, We all know Donck is probably the player most underperforming, but we don't all go on about it every fuckin day, we know, we get it, I know it's not just you but the problem is there are people who look to find fault, we even had some bright spark complaining that he turned his back in mid air on an Ivan Toney volley, listen if he ran over your dog then I apologise, but this constant berating from the usual suspects is tiresome, we know, we heard it the first thirty times !!

Merely stated that I hoped he’s not on the reported £75k/ week. Really not that outrageous a claim. Even the staunchest Donck fan would tell you that’s terrible business based on now the club is run.

What am I going to do about it? Hope he’s not on it like I said…
