Brighton (H) 05/10/25 - Build up & Match day thread

played quite well. Times where they open us up but we recover quickly, much better in that sense even effort wise.

JSL doesn’t look fit. Hwang is fucking wank.

Brighton very subdued, we have gained a good foothold in the middle after the goal but it's a very scrappy game. That does seem to benefit us more than them? Brighton have a lot of yellows, should be trying to run at them more. Arias looking much better but one of those FK routines was laughable.

Hwang and Tchatchoua are some weak links so far but decent overall even if not a good game.

I'm definitely not blackmailing Sniff, either...

Shocking opening 10-15 minutes but ended up being a really good half of football from us. A nice early second half goal would be lovely.

Munetsi, Arias & Santi all been very good. Hwang a lot better than last week but this is what he does. One week ok, next week like a pub player.

We’ve done well with what we’ve got, at least there’s some fight left.
BHA will be better second half though. Absolutely have to win this the time has gone for a draw or plucky defeats.

Hwang has been abysmal, no idea how anybody can think otherwise. Appalling player.

The defence has actually looked like an organised unit in the last two games which is a huge positive.

A really solid, comfortable performance by HT, which makes it one of our best against Brighton in recent years by default.

The spine of the team is looking better - and, probably relatedly, more settled - with each passing game now. But out wide, on both sides... not sure what we do there. Lots of inconsistencies in technique and quality, and the alternative options on the bench have their own varying deficiencies. I'd prefer Rodrigo Gomes over Hwang but other than that there aren't any obvious answers there until someone steps up. (And I'm not counting Arias as a wide player, he's clearly better when he's allowed to roam around ahead of two sitting DMs and act as a creative fulcrum.)

And speaking of stepping up, fair play to Santi Bueuno. Maybe not a coincidence that he's been looking better with Krejci in there to lead things - big fan of Krejci, definitely my pick of the summer signings so far, god help us if we get an injury and he needs to step up into midfield again - but it's the first time in a long time that I've felt this comfortable with a CB pairing.

The keeper brings a calmness. Now he hasn’t really had anything to do, but him not being an absolute moron hasn’t led to the chaos that we normally get. This then helps the centre back pairing who look very calm and good on the ball and not the bomb scare we are used to. We’re still heavily reliant on set pieces the other way but being more solid is a starting point.

Yeah, fair play to Johnstone, this is, what, three games in a row now where he's been completely fine and steady? It can't not be helping settle down so many nerves at the back.
