Anyone taking the first statement at face value is a fool, and they treat it like it was a fucking gold-plated, cast iron guarantee FFS. I mean Liverpool have won literally 2 league titles in 35 years, Manchester United have won none in 12 years and the way they're going it'll be another 12 (they also went 26 years without a title before Fergie's golden run started) but they think because our chairman once got a bit giddy and said we could compete* in a throwaway comment then that's it, we have to do it, he said it, must be true.

If the crux of your argument is "Jeff Shi is a cock and shouldn't be running Wolverhampton Wanderers" then I am absolutely on the same page as you. If you're going to windmill about cloud cuckoo land new stands when we can't sell out the ground we have, and whatever he says about where he expects us to finish then I am not.


*We would have finished at very least 6th had Covid not hit, which is about as good as we're ever going to do

The thing that sticks out to me is that he’s absolutely not wrong about the current spending habits in the PL being totally unsustainable. Maybe he comes up with something that’s a total disaster, but I think he’s at least correct in the assessment.

How that has turned out for the playing squad is another matter, but we consistently do enough to stay in the world’s top league. That’s not nothing, even if it isn’t what people wanted after being immediate Euro contenders under Nuno, and it’s entirely possible (I’d say probable) that the low-ish ebb we’ve been at would have come regardless. I’d have preferred to not have all the ridiculous drama, the ticket prices, all that, but I often wonder what we’re here for if not staying in the Prem. The odds of a club our size taking a step forward that is impossible to backslide from are basically nil.

It wasn't a throw away comment, it was him not knowing what he is talking about, as that's been evident many, many times.

He didnt know what football was 10 years ago, and about 18 months after he'd got involved in football he said we were going to emulate City!? It was arrogant and it was cocky.

Don't confuse "better than anyone thought, with expectations universally at zero" with "really good".
