General Wolves News

How the fuck did they run a business without having regular management meetings? Stinks of Jeff thinking he can do it all himself.
Well we know that was the case.

However, whatever has happened to make him realise it's not all about him, I am all for it.

Giving up his Compton office for the players is quite a move from him.

Interesting read about the turnaround since Vitor arrived:

"Maybe we did not need to change formation every week, tweaking the press," says another Wolves figure who saw the preparations change. "We spent so much time focused on the opposition and how to stop them, we ended up not having an identity."

This was so, so, so obvious from the outside. It amazes me that O'Neil never reverted to a 'basics first' approach when the wheels started falling off and instead just blamed the players for not being able to perfectly implement his mega-brain tactical tweaks every week.

It's something he'll have to change drastically if he's ever going to have more than a brief impact at any club.

Obviously I am limited by the camera lens, but I actually thought we had quite a clear identity under GO tactically, insofar as exhibiting the exact same vulnerabilities week after week after week.

I genuinely didn’t see tangible changes per week based on the opposition, nor do I think GO would have been capable of such.

Opinions tho ay. Obviously from the inside Lycan’s call seems accurate.

His total inability to defend set pieces suggests he simply doesn’t have “basics first” in his skill set. It wasn’t just this season we were dreadful defensively. Last season when we had kids playing up front any competent manager would have realised goals were going to be hard to come by and taken a safety first approach knowing it would be easier to concede less than score more.

A good thread on the 23/24 Premier League finances, including our own, which I've highlighted below.

Total revenue: £178m
TV Revenue: £133m (75% of total revenue)
Commercial Revenue: £29m (16% of total revenue)
Matchday Revenue: £16m (9% of total revenue)

I think that highlights clearly how little impact matchday revenue actually makes on our financial ability to grow as a club. And why Shi choosing to raise prices constantly whilst claiming the increased revenue it brings is necessary, is actually a pittance in the grand scheme of things.

As for the wage bill, we were 14th in the league at £142m.

How he never managed to spot in the early games that every time we lost the ball, regardless of where it was on the pitch, we were immediately in huge trouble...

The Chelsea and Forest games in August were absolute chaos. You cannot have that situation in the Premier League, you'll concede forever, the opposition are too good for you to get away with it. But no mate, you carry on with Gazketball. You know best.

Even before this season it was already present.

Beating Chelsea 2-1 on Christmas Eve '23 was a Christmas Miracle, they should've been about 5-0 up first half but for Nicolas Jackson being as much use up front as Janet Jackson.

United would've been been about 4-0 up at halftime in the 4-3 in January '24 too if anybody but [The] Rasmus Hojlund was up front.

I'm all for bashing I'm Sorry Miss Jackson (ooh), the permanently offside wastrel, but I think it was the even shitter current day Raheem Sterling and budding Bruce Forsyth impersonator Armando Broja that wasted all those chances :D

Each time I read an article from the Incredible Bullshitting Man (Shi) and Hobbs (sounds like an even shitter Fast and Furious sequel) I remind myself of this... and how much everything was part of the plan... pair of wankers!

Gotta admit, I didn’t expect to see an Outkast reference on the forum today. 💛
