Jeffrage

My fave type of rage on this forum.

Maybe we are the most efficient at investing, I think we are one of the best in the league.

Riiight.

But we've had absolutely tons of dud signings for years, including some wanker with a face like a smacked arse who cost £27m and we can't give away for free.

Efficient my arse.

I don't like Jeff, like us all, but he wasn't that bad there when you watch it in full. Obviously a lot you can pick apart.

As mentioned, not forthcoming in praising Nuno. There were two questions that felt like obvious answers, first of which was 'any manager you sacked sooner than you should?' which felt was leading to discussing Nuno, but he then spoke about giving O'Neil longer than he should. The second was worst signing and an awkward pause before he didn't say Fabio. To be fair, you can see why he will say a player who is no longer at the club.

Admitted to a few mistakes and spoke about learning from them. The Jimenez injury and the few years that followed were mentioned.

Not sure what to take from his talk about transfers.

It's wrong to underestimate Jeff's ability to do something stupid, but he had a confidence you wouldn't expect for a man who saw his side finish 16th and then sell two key players. Surely he wouldn't put himself out there like this unless there was a real belief we would do something positive this window. I know, I've fallen for it again :D

Oh, and he loves esports. I don't know enough to comment about it but he said it was a passion of his (and you can tell), and he wants Wolves to be at the forefront of whatever growth is can have.

Of course he’s gone back on the stadium stuff. He thinks we’re never getting more than 40,000 in the stadium so it’s “not urgent”.

We’re not getting more in the stadium because you have priced a large % of the fanbase out of going. You’ve also served up a sub-standard product for years now with little to no improvement in the matchday experience.

Obviously he wants to improve/invest in hospitality because that’s where he can charge the most.

Fucking pillock x 2. I can’t stand the smarmy twat.

Like a lot on here i don't get it BUT millions do.
Esports is massive in China and us being involved could help us, especially with China getting narky about money being invested outside of their country.
I wonder if Jeff is wanting some sort of Esports arena in Wolverhampton. Fosun have already offered to build one in China

He mentioned trying to bring it to Wolverhampton, but in a throwaway 'who knows' type thing as opposed to it definitely will happen.

That would be absolute peak Shi. Has an esports stadium built in Wolverhampton but doesn’t spend any money on the actual stadium that the PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL TEAM play in.

Fucking pillock x 3. That’s a hatrick.

Tell you what Jeff, you go and run the esports team and I'll do your job at wolves. I think I'd could make just as good a fist of it

Good luck charging hospitality and then parachuting folk into a stand that predates Thatcher's premiership

We don't actually need more capacity though. You can get a ticket for pretty much any game you want 24 hours before kick off. No-one is missing out now because we don't have enough seats.

We do have a stand that is rapidly becoming a relic but it isn't a simple decision to do anything with it, it's expensive, you lose a side of the ground for a season (minimum) and given that we've basically hit the limit in terms of what you can reasonably charge to watch a mid-table team play in Wolverhampton, how do you make that work financially.

If it was cheaper more people would go, if we extended the stadium they'd make more money - eventually.

They aren't going to be here in 5 or 10 years though are they, so they don't see the point.

I mean, I can only talk about my own personal circumstances - but the main reason I haven’t yet taken my son to his first Wolves game (he’s 6 now) is because of the ridiculous cost involved in doing so. I just can’t justify it when that money would be better spent elsewhere. I absolutely understand that others may decide it’s worth it.

But if you drop the price to something reasonable - you sell more tickets and you put more bums on seats. It’s not rocket science.

Of course; there will be games where we sell out, and others that we don’t. But saying we “cannot get more than 40,000 in the stadium” isn’t true. It’s unlikely because of how they choose to run the football club.

I'm all for kicking Jeff Shi but you're not being reasonable.

You want him to commit to spending £50m (at least) on a new stand, accepting that we'll lose literally thousands off capacity for a year minimum, probably two while that's all built, AND you then want him to hack prices away so we lose even more income from where we currently are.

All so we might get 36,000 against Man Utd rather than 31,000, but we'll still only probably get 28,000 against Bournemouth or Palace.

It's fine to make the argument that we could do it and well, it's a simple fact that the Steve Bull is rapidly coming to the end of its lifespan as an acceptable Premier League stand. It's not the absolute tap-in you're making out though.

Then why were you so cross about them hiking up the prices and talking about how many fans we have lost/losing over the last 12 months?
You really need to ask? I mean, really?

The barrier to us putting another 30%+ on the gate isn't cost, it's that we don't have that many matchgoing fans, we have a finite base and we aren't a good enough team to attract that kind of support unless you habitually let people in for free or next to free, like Sunderland.

You know how these things work when you have a dislike for someone. You’ve been doing it towards Doc (and many others!) for years. Forum rules state I have to go in emotionally and double footed 😂

I understand the predicament Fosun find themselves in re; the stadium. But I can’t abide his smarmy “I know better than you” attitude and backtracking. He treats the fans like they are stupid & I just can’t accept that.

I am confused Dan we discussed at length about how many fans we'd lose last season with them putting the prices up.

You thought it'd be more than I did.

But my argument from Shi's point of view was that the club would still make more cash even with fewer ticket sales.

With a higher capacity, they could lower the prices and get more in and raise more cash that way.
