Re: the esports thing, I can only offer from my perspective but I'd think there is an element of watching someone do something really well. I like playing football and so have an interest in it, if I have the opportunity to watch someone play it at a very high standard I probably will. Id imagine the same is true of esports

I have no idea why you are taking the piss out of me.
Well the argument started with words to the effect of “just build the stand you moron then we can get more people and make it cheaper” which is not only unrealistic but totally stupid.

No, this is what I said.
Which also isn’t correct... Making it cheaper wouldn’t make more people go to level which outweighs making it cheaper, before you even even consider the cost of the investment.

When you were liking Jinky’s posts, I assumed you were agreeing with his sentiments which IMO fell into the unrealistic/stupid category.

I literally said 5-10 years and "eventually". :ROFLMAO:

It's a wonder why any club, ever expands their stadium or charges lower prices for less prestigious games!?

I absolutely agree with the passion and thrust of Jinky's posts.

Being told we can't bring up Shi's comments about City or that charging less would bring in more fans is interesting to say the least.

Particularly as last pre season Dan was arguing at length about how many fans we'd lose from putting prices UP.

I love the fact that Jinky actually decided to sit down and watch that interview :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

What were you expecting? I'm not sure what he could have possibly said that wouldn't make you froth at the mouth. It's like me deciding to sit down to watch The Sound of Music out of choice. No way I'm lasting 2 minutes before I start ranting about how much I hate musicals.

Still - appreciate the summary of what he said so I don't have to watch it.

But it wouldn’t make money it 5-10 years would it! That’s the fucking point! We don’t sell out as it is. The maths has been spelt out to you but you’re still banging the same drum.

Other clubs expand their stadium because they have lots of fans. Wolverhampton Wanderers do not.

I have been trying to avoid the snippets of the interview as I’m going to watch it today on my day off (what a life eh)

I have skipped through this conversation but I don’t get why people are trying to justify the price of the tickets? They’re obscene and unnecessary, just like most football clubs.

Er, no I didn't. I used the building the stand stuff as another example of Shi chatting a crock of shit and going back on his words. I absolutely understand the reason behind not wanting to do it now. I also said he obviously wants to prioritise sorting out the hospitality areas in the SB stand because that's where they can charge the most money - another example of Shi simply caring most about how much money he can squeeze out of the fanbase.

You're a top poster on here and I really enjoy reading your input. It does you no favours what so ever when you jump to conclusions and start labelling other people's opinions as "stupid".

I think last nights debate summed up the forum quite nicely. You've got DW telling us on one hand that we're not allowed to bring up something Jeff Shi said 8 years, but on the other hand still regularly quotes Paul Lambert ... "I know what Romain can do". Let alone bringing up performances of Matt Doherty from a decade+ ago. I've absolutely no idea why any sane Wolves fan would want to defend Jeff Shi. He's a thoroughly unlikable individual and spends a large % of his time trying to come across like he's intellectually better than the fanbase who couldn't possibly understand stuff about how a football club works. I mean, he literally said those words in the interview, ffs!

Anyway, enough on Shi's interview from me, anyway. We all know what he is. If people have some weird prerogative to defend him, you do you. I'll keep calling him out for being a smarmy twat.

(and @Langers - I sat and watched it because I wanted to try and give him the benefit of the doubt, rather than form a view of a few snippets. In reflection this morning, I don't know why I did. Dan wouldn't sit through an hour+ interview with Doc, for example, so I don't know why I did it to myself 😂)

Of course he’s gone back on the stadium stuff. He thinks we’re never getting more than 40,000 in the stadium so it’s “not urgent”.

We’re not getting more in the stadium because you have priced a large % of the fanbase out of going. You’ve also served up a sub-standard product for years now with little to no improvement in the matchday experience.

Obviously he wants to improve/invest in hospitality because that’s where he can charge the most.

Fucking pillock x 2. I can’t stand the smarmy twat.

Jinky:

I understand the predicament Fosun find themselves in re; the stadium. But I can’t abide his smarmy “I know better than you” attitude and backtracking. He treats the fans like they are stupid & I just can’t accept that.

Identical statements, them

Literally didn't even mention building a new stand. Firstly, perhaps stop throwing the word "stupid" around. Secondly, if you're going to quote people - do it honestly/properly - as the type of stuff above does you no favours.

They are obscene and unnecessary. But the simple business question of “if we reduce the price buy 20%, does the gate increase by >20%” the answer is no. They raised prices taking the piss to the point I didn’t buy one but lots of people did, hence them getting high average attendances. So was it justified to Jeff Shi, yes. Ticket money will have gone up by a fair amount.

Was it necessary when it’s such a small percentage of our turnover for the loss of goodwill etc. absolutely not. Buts that’s not the question.

Okay, I get that BUT

I saw someone (Dan I think - I’m on my phone and can’t be arsed to look back) saying it was better to have 31,000 paying 40 than 40,000 paying 25. Which I think is interesting because a) there’s an extra 9,000 people probably also spending money in the stadium on the day whether it’s in the stands or in the club shop but also b) in the long run (maybe not even long run in fact) having 40,000 in the ground every week can only likely help home form which also increases revenues.

and this is the crux of it and why I couldn't help but laugh when people were arguing against it last night. Any professional football club surely wants more bums on seats because that's better for every single aspect of the club. If you have to drop the price of the tickets slightly to achieve this, that's what you do. Sure the fag-packet maths that DW did last night might still ring true, and they might actually initially lose out on the top line - but from all the additional areas where they can generate money from having the extra people through the door, the club benefits in the end.

Jeff Shi's view is, he's not arsed if we don't fill the ground, because he's charging more to those that do still go, so his profit report still looks good when he sits down for his end of year review with Guo. It's completely flawed logic.

Seats are such a small portion of overall revenue that I’m not at all surprised that Fosun aren’t interested in that type of investment. They should take better care of Molineux, though.

You have to consider all aspects of the customer (urgh) though. I'd imagine someone who has been to molineux is more likely to engage (urgh) with other commercial opportunities

I'm surprised the club haven't got a service where you can get a player to wish someone happy birthday, anniversary etc in a video

To be fair, you could do the same to back up your point and provide some numbers and a break even point.

Hypothetical costs but…

A new stand at £50m giving an extra 9k of capacity on a 10 year loan at 5% interest - year one loan repayment - £5m + £2.5m loan interest = £7.5m
£7.5m divided by 9000 divided by 19 games = £44 a ticket to break even on a cash flow basis.

We aren’t selling 9000 extra tickets a game to make it worthwhile.

If you don’t watch sound of music, you miss the mother superior calling Julie Andrews a cuntface! The clips on YouTube.
Musicals wise, you can’t hate
The blues brothers, and it is a musical, they burst into song randomly through the film
The Rocky horror show.
