Hillsborough

I'm glad Liverpool fans choose to not buy The Sun and newsagents choose to not stock it, but a choice is exactly what it should be.

I hope the ban takes effect and that loathsome publication suffers as a result. 100% behind them on this.

I disagree. If newsagents and the customers choose not to stock or buy any publication, then that is their choice. It really is not up to any council to tell people what they may or may not buy.

Six people are to face criminal charges over the Hillsborough disaster, the Crown Prosecution Service has announced.

Ninety-six football fans were fatally injured in a terrace crush at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at the stadium in Sheffield on 15 April 1989.

This includes Duckenfield, the match commander on the day of the Hillsborough disaster, potentially faces being charged with the manslaughter by gross negligence of 95 football fans at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989.

For legal reasons, Mr Duckenfield cannot be charged with the manslaughter of the 96th Hillsborough victim Tony Bland, who died four years after the disaster.

The CPS must also apply to the High Court for the lifting of an order which was imposed after Mr Duckenfield was prosecuted privately in 1999.

This would have to be lifted before he can be charged.

Mr Duckenfield now lives in Ferndown, Dorset.

Brilliant news.

I hope Steve Morgan is hanging his head in shame this morning

Wow. Is Steve Morgan actually thick? Did he never consider the implications of inviting someone caught up in one of the biggest football trials ever, to a football match? l'm literally going wtf here.

That article was from 4 yrs ago & predated the second inquest which found 'unlawful killing' as a verdict.

Having said that there were enough concerns by then re cover ups etc for sensible people to be cautious on association. If Morgan had invited him for dinner in a private location (given that he wasn't formally accused of anything at that time) to show support to a friend who was presumably considered innocent until proved otherwise might have been fine. Parading the association at a public event such as the match at Molineux shows bad judgement

Obviously wasn't that public at Molineux or no one cared as it wasn't until the Bradford away game it was pointed out he was with him and Wolves confirmed he had been his guest at Molineux previously.

No, but did clearly come out into the open which it was always likely to do

The Bradford game where this became public was after the second inquest had been ordered and the original verdicts quashed. Innocent until proven guilty, absolutely and he still is, but the wheels were put in motion to bring us to where we are today prior to that Bradford match. For someone that was/is a Liverpool fan and an ex season ticket holder it was and remains shameful.
