Israel-Palestine

The problem is there's absolutely no credible mechanism to stop this. It will continue until Likud and Netanyahu are ousted.

A far more aggressive stance from the Western world in terms of narrative and sanctions would effect it.

Stop selling all Israeli goods in the UK, don't arm them, offer them no support at all. Effect their economy.

But that won't happen through fear of claims of anti-semitism.

The UK could stop selling arms and it would make no difference at all. The US isn't going to withdraw their support.

Hence my statement. No credible mechanism.

And if you think Israel will base it's national security actions on anything other than the government of the days policies then you haven't been paying attention.

It's like Trump. Every nation on earth can condemn what he does, but it will do fuck all to change his policies.

“We’ll never stop bad guys getting guns, so there’s no point in stopping anyone from getting guns”.

I'm not saying the UK shouldn't stop arms sales. I'm saying that to do so won't save a single Palestinian life.

A valid moral gesture, but a gesture nonetheless.

Sanctions, don't sell a single Israeli item in this country, that would have a significant impact on their economy - especially if that was across the whole of the EU.

There are ways, there is always a way. Just shrugging certainly isnt the way.

And what of the 99% of the support that comes from the US and will never be curtailed?

Maybe so, but fewer arms going to Israel is an absolute good, whether it completely neuters them or not.

Irrelevant to what the EU can and should do. An embargo on Israel is the only justifiable action and to Hell with what my government thinks. We may never stop, but better that we’re the only ones.

The poem "First they came..." is a short, powerful work by German pastor Martin Niemöller.
It reflects on the dangers of apathy and inaction in the face of oppression.

Let's all just do and say nothing until America changes its mind then, eh. Get your snipers lads, those children aren't gonna shoot themselves. Promotion/relegation places on the leaderboard

I'm not saying don't embargo Israel. Its a good idea.

I'm saying don't expect it to change anything.
