I’m pretty sure the rules were changed a few years ago when a club complained and now they can pick whoever they choose from their squad without any repercussions so the right answer is just that.

I meant ethically, not rules wise. Both arguments have merit, it's just up to the team to decide what they think is the right thing to do.

They played Trent from the start who they knew was going. Slot will know pretty well which of his squad players he wants to retain already they’ve all had some minutes in cup games sub appearances etc
I think he was just giving some game time and ensuring some players ie Chiesa guaranteed themselves a medal.
Totally his prerogative, if you were at the wrong end of it you’d be a bit hacked but know you could let really do much about it.
