Live Match Discussion 2024/25

Agreed... but hasn't this game been far more entertaining than anything the men can provide in recent times? I love a game when both teams have attacking intent.

Not really no.

It was entertaining in the way that Oldham 2-2 Southend might be entertaining, it was a very poor game in terms of quality.

Plus England's men have gone SF, F, QF and F since 2018 and played a lot of good stuff along the way.

It's not just about "quality" though, is it. The sport encompasses so much more than that, especially international comps.

Fucking Kiljoy.

I think the difference in your example is that there are several higher tiers of men's football than Oldham-Southend that can be enjoyed if you're talking about objective quality, whereas last night is in the higher tier of where the women's game currently is.

I'm not the biggest fan of International football anyway, but I find the England women's team easier to get behind than the men's; often full of cheating fuckers I can't stand week in, week out 😅

I’m not a football purist, I like to be entertained. IMO last night was way more entertaining than any tiki taka top level men’s game. That probably makes me a child but I’m happy with that.

I dunno, it was entertaining, but the standard at times was uncomfortably poor.

I really enjoyed the last tournament, not just because we won it but because the matches were entertaining AND the standard was high - a really good advert for the women’s game.

The quality has been lower this time, the penalty shootout was a bit of an embarrassment and it feels it’s a bit of a step backwards which is a shame.

I’ve been watching a bit of the Wafcon, following Zambia - the average standard in the euros is definitely higher, the Norway / Italy game was more structured than yesterday for example. If you want a bit of chaos watch Wafcon - you’ve got one of the best players in the world, Barbra Banda, playing with defenders who look like they’ve never seen a football 😀

I've got to the stage where I don't compare the men and women's game at all any more, and just judge them on their own merits. It's no different to watching the tennis for me now. I'd never watch a woman tennis player serve and think "that was so slow, I could return that".

Women's football has evolved no end over recent years and imv deserves to be judged on its own merit.

For me the difference is that while women’s tennis is less powerful it isn’t riddled with basic errors.
