Loan Watch 2022/2023

Update from the weekend.

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played the full game as Blues lost 2-0 at Rotherham. Ruddy pulled off a penalty save but that’s only one win in 5 now for the Noses.

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

Played 90 minutes (subbed off in added time) in a 2-1 win vs Swansea. Got an assist for the second - played a great one-two down the left wing then cut it back smartly for his team mate.

Taylor Perry - Cheltenham (League 1)

Followed up last week’s assist with his first goal of the season in a 2-1 defeat at home to Oxford. Started the build-up to the goal with a free-kick chipped in to the area, keeper punches it out and it falls to him at the edge of the box from where he rifles the shot into the bottom corner.

From 20 seconds:

Nigel Lonwijk - Plymouth Argyle (League One)

Played the full game of a 2-0 win over Notlob and got an assist for the first. Chipped a free kick down the right flank which Niall Ennis ran onto, took into the area with some good work then slotted home. Lonwijk was guilty of a sloppy pass later though, which led to a shot off the post.

Louie Moulden - Solihull Moors (National League)

Played in a 3-0 win over Dorking. Gave away a penalty in the second half but made amends with a great save.

Also played tonight in a 1-0 defeat at Notts County.

Joe Young - Dartford (National League South)

Made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at home to Worthing, but followed it up with a clean sheet tonight in a 2-0 win away at Hemel Hempstead.

Bendeguz Bolla and Hayao Kawabe - Grasshoppers Zurich (Swiss Super League)

Bolla got the full game and Kawabe 85 minutes in GHZ’s first league defeat of the season, a 3-1 reverse at Servette.

On as sub: Corbeanu was at it again at home to Bristol City, pounced on a lapse at the back to hold off a strong challenge and chip the ball past the keeper. Was subbed on with 10 minutes to go.

Goal at the end:

Fabio Silva came on at HT for Anderlecht but didn’t do much to help stop them losing 2-1.

Lewis Richards came on at HT with his team 4-0 down at home to Newport, but at least it didn’t get any worse - he hit the bar with a cracking shot from 30-odd yards out and they drew the second half 0-0 at least.

Unused sub: Hoever

Not in squad: Sang-Bin, Campana, O’Shaughnessy, Jordao.

Our lot love their chips :)

hearing a fair few positive reports for Lonwijk with his loan. They seem to like him there.

Question - why do some clubs have crazy jersey numbers ?

Fabio wears number 99 for instance - that has nothing got to do with the number of senior players they have .

It’s played choice and some clubs and leagues indulge it. Don’t think the premier league allows it.

So Fabio likes the number 99........wonder why .

Mad to be indulging that . What's to stop players from choosing the number 174 for instance ?

The numbers have to be a certain minimum size so 3 figures isn’t practical

Mexican clubs would drive you mad, I bet.

Their attackers must love him

That's poor keeping though. The ball is very high when he is still coming out and then starts chasing it away from goal.

I wasn't sure Giles was ever going to be good enough to play for us regularly but I've watched him 3 times this season and be looks miles too good for the championship.

Coady did play pretty well yesterday to be fair to him. However they were on the back foot and playing on the break a lot and because they were deep they had a lot of help back there from the midfield, will be interesting to see how he gets on if they keep playing a 4.
