Loan Watch 2022/2023

Coady did play pretty well yesterday to be fair to him. However they were on the back foot and playing on the break a lot and because they were deep they had a lot of help back there from the midfield, will be interesting to see how he gets on if they keep playing a 4.
Playing with defensive midfielders around you in a back four - you might as well be in an England shirt with 7 defenders .

Playing in a back 4 in an attacking formation is a horse of a different colour . You need good pace for that role .

Bit of a slump for Anderlecht and Fabio, 3 defeats in a row and only 1 goal scored. Doesn’t look like they’ve had many shots in that time either

Think they've sold a few key players and not really replaced them. Also came up against their first actually hard games of the season with USG & Gent.

Midweek roundup:

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played a full game in a 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich. Blues now in the bottom three.

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

Another 90 minutes and an assist for Giles but this time in a 2-1 defeat at Watford. It was a great ball in from the left just after he skipped past a defender. Put in another peach of a cross from a FK later which they were unlucky not to score from.

Fabio Silva - Anderlecht (Belgian Premier)

Played a fruitless 90 minutes in a 1-0 defeat at home to Gent

Lonwijk and Richards both got full games in the EFL Trophy midweek, while Perry came on for the second half.

On as sub: Corbeanu came on for the last half hour in a 1-0 defeat at home to Blackburn, while Hoever came on for after 55 minutes with PSV 5-1 up.

Not in squad: O’Shaughnessy, Campana (injured).

Thing is we don't play wingbacks now and I don't think he's a LB or a forward...

Canada are fairly deep at winger, they've got four guys out there who are basically assured a call-up already.

Not holding my breath but good to see him giving Herdman something to think about, all the same.

Can see us getting good money for him and Giles at this rate (unless we consider them as first team squad players at some point)

Surely no place for Giles now. Isn't a LB and isn't really a forward.

Yeah I’d say so. And he isn’t playing ahead of RAN even if we play with wing backs tbh

Just because I love a good throwback story to my time in tier 12/13 management. I had a really solid and dependable LB, he was also the rare amateur footballer that would be available for every game of the season, never missed mid week games neither when they were on, would never turn up hung over etc, managers dream!

One pre-season though another LB turns up to train with us, can see he is a better footballer, faster, stronger etc but don't want to risk pissing the other guy off, so I instead speak to the new LB about playing in the wide left of the front 3 role, he thinks I am insane, gives it a go and has 12 goals and 15 assists (roughly) as we finished 2nd and missed out on promotion in the playoff final.

bmb > Lage is basically what I am saying.

Give me the job and I will get Giles overlapping a wingback, who is over lapping a fullback! It's going to be revolutionary.

Update from the weekend.

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played the full game as Blues lost 2-0 at Rotherham. Ruddy pulled off a penalty save but that’s only one win in 5 now for the Noses.

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

Played 90 minutes (subbed off in added time) in a 2-1 win vs Swansea. Got an assist for the second - played a great one-two down the left wing then cut it back smartly for his team mate.

Taylor Perry - Cheltenham (League 1)

Followed up last week’s assist with his first goal of the season in a 2-1 defeat at home to Oxford. Started the build-up to the goal with a free-kick chipped in to the area, keeper punches it out and it falls to him at the edge of the box from where he rifles the shot into the bottom corner.

From 20 seconds:

Nigel Lonwijk - Plymouth Argyle (League One)

Played the full game of a 2-0 win over Notlob and got an assist for the first. Chipped a free kick down the right flank which Niall Ennis ran onto, took into the area with some good work then slotted home. Lonwijk was guilty of a sloppy pass later though, which led to a shot off the post.

Louie Moulden - Solihull Moors (National League)

Played in a 3-0 win over Dorking. Gave away a penalty in the second half but made amends with a great save.

Also played tonight in a 1-0 defeat at Notts County.

Joe Young - Dartford (National League South)

Made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at home to Worthing, but followed it up with a clean sheet tonight in a 2-0 win away at Hemel Hempstead.

Bendeguz Bolla and Hayao Kawabe - Grasshoppers Zurich (Swiss Super League)

Bolla got the full game and Kawabe 85 minutes in GHZ’s first league defeat of the season, a 3-1 reverse at Servette.

On as sub: Corbeanu was at it again at home to Bristol City, pounced on a lapse at the back to hold off a strong challenge and chip the ball past the keeper. Was subbed on with 10 minutes to go.

Goal at the end:

Fabio Silva came on at HT for Anderlecht but didn’t do much to help stop them losing 2-1.

Lewis Richards came on at HT with his team 4-0 down at home to Newport, but at least it didn’t get any worse - he hit the bar with a cracking shot from 30-odd yards out and they drew the second half 0-0 at least.

Unused sub: Hoever

Not in squad: Sang-Bin, Campana, O’Shaughnessy, Jordao.
Excellent stuff Mr Sedgeley. Thanks for the effort you put into producing this info'.

Is one of them Junior Hoilett?
