Man City 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Is that down to the quality of the Premier league or the lack of quality in the Championship? Guess it's inevitable given the way football is run and has evolved.

When you've got a team as poor as Manchester United have been this season beating the team who are 4th in La Liga away from home I do think it says a lot for the Premier League, when we stayed up under McCarthy for those couple of seasons and you compare that squad to the teams that are finishing in those positions now, with starting players for international teams like Spain and Brazil I do think it's at a much better level now.

Frustrating. City tend to get better towards the end of the season, so 1-0 is not a bad loss. First half we were the better team but you have to take your chances against them so we have no one to blame but ourselves. Played with a lot of confidence for 30 minutes, but the goal knocked the stuffing out of us. 2nd half neither side really looked like scoring - City managed the game well.

Watched the game with my wife. She tries her best, but...
Second half has just started, "Wolves are playing really well but I can't believe man united haven't scored yet. How long 'til half time?"

Yeah it’s why it’s so hard to stay up now, even though spurs and Man Utd have had terrible PL seasons the 17 teams are at such a level now the worst side would probably have come mid table 10 years ago.
The championship is all far weaker than when we went up to.

Financial gulf is too big. With the PSR rules the championship clubs aren’t even allowed to make up the gap. Then they get relegated and have to cut their cloth again. They still have more financial muscle than the other championship clubs so get promoted again and the cycle continues.

I agree mostly, but each of the 3 promoted clubs spent well over 100million.

I think with a more pragmatic and physical approach (and obviously good transfer business) promoted sides could make a much better fist of it.

Southampton and Ipswich trying to out football Prem sides is just stupid.

I'd like to see how a club that is physical, direct and uses set pieces well gets on.

The alternative is you do a Forest and ignore them in the first season and back yourselves to be too good in the second for the points deduction to matter.

But 100m wasn’t enough. Ipswich had a team of League one players. They all needed to spend more and spend better. We can afford a few busts in the market because we already have some good players. We also have a strong chance of the same money coming in again the season after.

We’ve got a squad that has Sasa, Guedes, Johnstone, Forbs, Doyle, Hwang, Boubacar, Djiga, Lima who contributed pretty much zero this year to the tune of 100s of million in fees and wages. I like Rodrigo but he’s not exactly been a big contributor and he wasn’t cheap. We’ve also got Fabio out on loan. Were able to absorb all this dross and bad spending, the newly promoted clubs can’t.

I agree playing the percentages gives you the best chance but that’s often not how they got promoted and there’s a snobbery about it now.

Doku was the difference. He had Semedo in his pocket and showed up Docherty, Semedo's support, for what he is, a below average player.

Doku will rinse better players than Nélson (sorry, you’re still my fave tho) and Doc.

I thought Doku did pretty much nothing last night.

Gets it, little burst of something, then usually checks back. I thought we largely nullified him.

I actually thought City looked pretty predictable and pedestrian, last night.

Never been particularly impressed with Doku, pound shop Adama😁. Apart from the goal I thought Semedo and Doc dealt pretty well with him and tbf the goal was probably more to do with Andre losing the ball when we were high up the pitch and no-one could get back to mark KdB.

That's fair but we did fuck up 2 perfectly acceptable chances ourselves, my response was to Semedo and Doc getting 'rinsed' all game by Doku.
Agree I fought doc and semedo on the whole did well against him.

But that’s what you pay the money for. We fucked up 2 perfectly acceptable chances as you said, city (doku in this instance) didn’t. He doesn’t misplace the pass, bellegarde does
