Wolves 1-3 Leeds: Verdict Thread

... at halftime Vitor and his team sat in the dugout for a good 5 minutes after the whistle trying to work out what the fuck to do before heading off to down the tunnel. Never seen that ever in football.
Yes, I mentioned that on the matchday thread, as Sky was showing it as they were waffling on in the studio.
They weren't even walking off towards the dressing room, they were actually sat in a group, discusing, yes, what the fuck do we do now rather than waiting for the 63rd minute.
And STILL, they left Agbadou on...

Doing fine - still in fair condition for my age which is probably as good as most of can hope for as a minimum - spent most of last year (and the first 3 months of this) trying to move back nearer family which took a lot longer than any of my 9 previous moves with problems all over the place, but finally completed it.

Just feel really saddened as the state we have fallen to - I could live with a relegation (shit happens to mot PL clubs apart from the really monied, and even some of them were getting close last year) I just want some pride, organistion and fight and if we fail then that's life. We are not even managing to do any of that now.

Nice to see you around Parkin, and like you, me being the eternal optimist, even I had a fairly thick layer of optimism peeled away last night.
When even I start to revisit phrases like, "How can so many internationally experienced footballers play so cluelessly together" when I last used that phrase as we slid into Division 1 years ago, then you know it must be bad....

What makes this impending relegation worse is that we have all seen it coming in slow motion over the past 4 years, it's unnecessary and self inflicted plus previous times at this level we felt like we were making up the numbers. This time (when promoted) we had players of the level we never dreamt we would see playing for us and the best manager of our lifetimes - from the stupid parting with Nuno it's all been downhill and self inflicted. It didn't have to be this way. We were playing and competing in Europe, now we prop up the table with a 100% defeat record with no sign of improving any time soon

Every team that’s ridden the buy-to-sell bus successfully for a few years eventually succumbs to relegation. Wimbledon sustained it for a while and so did Southampton and Swansea. There comes a time when you fail to adequately replace the players you sell. Clever owners realise that before it’s too late that they need to dig into their pockets and have a reset by buying some proven quality. We’ve bought from the budget aisle for too long so have nobody already at the club coming through and have just added more hopeful punts on a seemingly random selection of players.

Where is the character in the squad, who is it that's going to get us going if we go a goal down (which we regularly do)...everyone is just passing through.

Forget a Neves or a Moutinho, a Jody Craddock or a Karl Henry would do us the world of good. Probably not the current day versions although Jody might still outpace Santi Bueno.

It's not a great feeling to have a go at Toti as he's made a cracking career for himself for a £500k (?) punt, he's a good lad who clearly gives it everything and he's worth having in the squad.

But he isn't a captain and he shouldn't be a nailed on starter.

When you look at the impact that good captains have had on us down the years - Ally Robertson, Keith Curle, Paul Ince, Karl Henry, Jody Craddock, Sam Ricketts, Conor Coady - I find it so odd that we've treated it of late as an afterthought.

Wouldn’t mind but it’s fresh in the memory of everyone at the club just how important Coady leadership was between 2017-2022, good captains have the lead by example mentality ie they make sure their own performance is in good order.
Goes back to shoddy recruitment over the years, of not recruiting anybody who has any leadership.
Our players want to be payed well but don’t want the responsibility and pressure that being a PL footballer involves.
In our situation our squad needs to be the fittest, best prepared and hardest working in the league to compete along with a strong mentality I’d say we’re problem bottom in all those categories as well.

Absolutely agree with this, it's these sorts of career stories that I love about football.

I like the sentiment of this sort of stuff but we shouldn’t be picking players (like Toti as captain) on the strength of it.

I liked Mo Camara and George Elokobi as characters. Both pretty shit at football though and never wanted to pay to watch them.

Yeah. It's not Toti's fault, we literally don't have anyone with captain material in this squad. Joao is probably both closest, and also still nothing like a captain.
