Wolves 3-2 West Ham (LC) - Verdict Thread

I've seen peak shite era Doherty ON THE WRONG SIDE and I still think Hugo is worse at stopping crosses.

I don't think we're going to change him though. He does actually give us a fair bit going forward but my word. It's a challenge to watch.
He's not slow, but his turn of speed over 3 yards when an attacker tries to buy that yard off him to get a cross in is abysmal.

It makes no sense as I say he's quick when attacking. If he could improve that just 50% he'd be decent, as it is, defensively we just can't continue with it.

I loved Sasa's cameo but he was absolutely knackered at the end. Listening to his interview on WM you'd think he'd played the whole match. Makes me wonder if he is limiting his training, he can't be that unfit if he has been in full training all summer.

I'd say he and the medical team are being extra careful ,build him back up slowly . There is no way that he has been training at full pelt since early Summer . If he means that he plays just short cameo roles for the first half of the season then so be it ,but they all would be key cameo roles and he'd be guaranteed to come on with his smart movement .

He's clearly struggling for fitness though and the pace of Premier League matches will not suit him -even for 15 minutes . 5 minutes might do for September ,and then increase it from there .

He'll hardly move though to another club on loan - clubs simply will not get any value from him , and they won't look after him like we would either .

  1. Thought Hugo was awesome. But I've always been a fan.
  2. Need to see more of Jackson. He did well, but his break into nothing was very poor decision making.
  3. Great anticipation by Rodrigo. I like him.
  4. Larsen is a fucking beast. But I've been saying that for a long time.
  5. Thought Mosquera and Santi both looked much better than Agbadou. Did not love the hesitation to move forward, but neither of them wanted to make mistakes since they aren't first choice.
  6. Arias looked much better after Sass & Larsen came on.
  7. Hwang was poor - he doesn't even have the same motor he used too. He used to be relentless on the press, I didn't see that as much yesterday.
  8. Sasa looked good at points, but weak at other points. I think he stays healthy he can be a float option off the bench. Too bad his body is a broken mess cause he's a good player.
  9. Andre was phenomenal.
  10. Bellegarde makes some nice plays, but a more more boneheaded ones.
  11. Johnstone was fine. Couple huge saves.
That's my takeaways.

Starting XI should be

Sa
Jackson - Mosquera - Agbadou - Santi - Hugo
Andre - Gomes
Arias - Lopez
Larsen

After watching yesterday, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in a striker and dropping Larsen back slightly.

Not sure what I'm hoping for with tonight's draw.
A tougher club to show that we're actually getting there, or a lower league (chickenshit) club to hopefully guarantee our progress.
My experience watching Wolves is with a lower league club at home, we'll struggle, look like shite then scrape through, proving nothing.

I thought Hee Chan last night was the worst I've seen.
Sure he can run around enthusiastically, but his first and sometimes second touch puts the ball out of play, loses possession or is just not good enough. His passing is consistently poor. He missed the penalty and that free kick was shocking, it was exactly how I'd look if I took it. But then I'm 75 and it's a while since I played!

Good win, and good to do it in 90 minutes good for morale and confidence after coming from behind.

That bring said, the defending for the two goals wasn't great was it and I hope we're having a bit of an autopsy on that, I felt that they had two good chances in the first half they should have done better with too.

Hwang is Hwang. We all know what he is, effectively frozen out to Captain is quite the redemption arc though. Him getting the treatment was wrong, he tries which is more than can be said for Silva, Cutrone or Guedes who put fanbase give way more chances to. The fact he's still here is again the fault of idiots above him who turned down actual cash for him.

Jackson provided a good assist but should've been two when we broke 3 on 2 late on but he never looked like he'd angle his run towards goal or square it. We may have to get used to that decision making.

This is the report from my lad regarding my grandsons first Wolves game...hopefully it will make people smile!

He did enjoy it, other than when I shouted at something. He asked a LOT of questions about everything he could see. He asked why there hadn't been any goals after 7 minutes and when they were going to score again as soon as we scored. He wanted to play I spy 2 minutes in to the second half. But he never complained and we stayed to the end and he wants to do it again so all good.

Sentimental bollocks that has nothing to do with football. Fine as a one off if we must, no more please
Who would have been captain last night?

None of the recent selections started - Sa, Toti, Doc and Joao.

He may have got it as the most senior player rather than because of his loss?

If we're talking out of the blue captaincy selections then Andre, Bellegarde or any of the back three would have made as much sense as Hwang.

Looking at the Vitor's post-match comments it's pretty clear to me that it was a symbolic gesture from him/the club
