Wolves 3-2 West Ham (LC) - Verdict Thread

Last negative from me after a good few sub outings to win us the games was the Fields of Gold before kick off. Wolves this is not going to work week in week out, it had a meaning a week ago and should remain as a loving memory for Diogo in the Citeh game.

Exactly. Say whatever you want about him on here and I'll probably agree with you, celebrating his substitution like a goal after he's tried his best is nothing but pathetic.
Vitor also mentioned after the game that Hwang lost his grandfather this week and declined the offer to return to Korea to 'help' the team tonight

I think it does cheapen the moment a little. If it had started organically as a terrace chant I would be behind it more but as it is it feels a bit naff.

I'll add that I don't care for a second about Hi Ho getting the sack, it's absolutely shite, complete silence would be better than it.

That's awful. Of course the people who cheered wouldn't have known about that (given the make up of the South Bank tonight I'd be surprised if any of them knew their own name, typical for an early Carabao game) but it makes me feel even more annoyed about the reaction as well.

I hope Agbadou gets his mojo back because he is currently dogshite at the moment. Santi Bueno was pretty decent not brilliant but worked hard and did the easy stuff.

Only positives from me tonight; H Bueno looked decent and commited, liked seeing Lopez and Arias grow into the team, Jackson exhilarating a couple of times, lovely Sasa cameo, Rodrigo lively and lots to offer...team showed some bollocks to come back and win as well.

Good to get the winning feeling back for fans and players

André & João were very good as well and Santi played better than I've ever seen him on the left side. Lots to like from tonight.

I mean that's quite a lot of positives!

We have issues, that is clear. We struggle big time these days with passing from deep, the days of Coady and Neves pinging it miles and immediately turning us from defence to attack are gone. I'm not sold on a single one of our defenders to be honest (Agba 2025/26 version), all our keepers are various shades of shite, and the two #10s we've bought don't look particularly oven ready.

But the good outweighed the bad tonight.

Andre never lost possession once tonight, love the way he can effortlessly turn on a dime with the ball and move forward. Love the man.

I've seen peak shite era Doherty ON THE WRONG SIDE and I still think Hugo is worse at stopping crosses.

I don't think we're going to change him though. He does actually give us a fair bit going forward but my word. It's a challenge to watch.

The weird thing for me is how he picks and chooses the moments to show a bit of fight. There were loads of small moments today where he really got stuck in and made a difference but there are too many moments where an attacking player will have a go at him and he just won't fancy it.

Great to get the win and score , not 1 , not 2 , but 3 goals !

It's the League Cup , so you have to factor that in , but at the same time it's a long time since we played quite well in a League Cup match , even against opposition from lower divisions . We seemed up for the fight too in the second half which was very encouraging to see .
It's going to take time for our new players to find their feet . This is something we see at several clubs , most players who have never played in the Premier League before take a good few matches to really settle .
I thought it was really important to see Santi playing well . It therefore gives us another option if Agbadou's form remains poor . Take a look at our starting centre backs in our opening two league matches - all three would make you nervous . We need other options .
Andre and J Gomes playing well was another huge bonus last night .
Jackson's cameo was also great to see - a RWB that can cross a ball........well I never !!
Sasa's time on the pitch - really happy for him . Has a good head on him if he can just stay fit .
Hugo Bueno - hard to know what to say . Why does he not make any great effort to stop crosses on a number of occasions ?....and yet offer a lot going forward .
JSL..........too real strikers goals.........in one sense it will encourage Newcastle to up their bid even more , and that's not good news . On the other hand it was clear last night how important he is to us , and he looked really happy too in scoring the goals . Does it change anything one wonders ? Probably not .

Despite all of the above if Larsen leaves it will leave a massive hope up top that we will simply not be able to fill . Any new player arriving - despite their status - will take time to adjust to the weekly slog of Premier League football , and anyway , who is that player.....it will be very hard to find a replacement for a club like ours , any club for that matter at the 11th hour .
Uche looks like it might not happen now - another blow .

I have good time for Vitor I must say . I like his attitude , his honesty and his straightforward comments . However if both of our chief goal scorers from last season are removed then how is he supposed to operate ?
