The Cricket Thread

That's weird, it definitely said 35.78 or whatever earlier!

But who would you pick instead...

Poor shot by Root at a vital stage of the evening.... but opens the game up if Brook doesn't fire.

Amazing spell from Bumrah and a brilliant knock from Pope under pressure. Shame a loose shot from Root puts this back on edge.

England 100 behind with 4 wickets in hand and Brook living a charmed life. Been dropped and now batting like he will get out with every ball. Someone needs to run out and have a word with him.

Shot Harry.

You’ve been attacking all along but have a word with yourself and go on the defensive please.

Was a super shot ... so why he has these brain farts is beyond me. Dropped 4 times so far and that's if we don't count the no ball dismissal. Seems that every so often he has to do something silly but then he can play some superb shots. Let's hope the drinks break refocuses him.

Averaging a tick under 61 in Test cricket. Someone get out there and tell him how to play for God's sake.

I know but this game could be entirely different if India had taken their chances. He's a great player but he just seems to have these temptations to risk it all.

And there we have it... on 99 and top edges ... stupid, partic. after wafting at it the ball before. Saw it coming.

Such a strange innings. Almost in self destruct mode right from the start but littered with brilliant shots.
Root was ‘awkward’ as well yesterday and looked very un-Root like. Him getting out as he did also came as no surprise.

It's this philosophy that we have to batter the opposition all the time and take the attack to them. Great to watch when it comes off but surely there are times to play the game position?

I get how Brook plays to some degree, as everyone who has ever batted sometimes gets the temptation to have a blast, but this is test cricket and there are times to tone it down.

Time and a place.

Duckett seems to grasp it and so does Pope but some of the ‘better’ batsmen seem unable at times to read the situation. Brook in this innings in particular was very odd and it started with his no ball reprieve when (I think) he hadn’t yet scored. The shot and shots before it just seemed to lack focus or care. Towards the end of the innings today, if we ignore the numerous chances he gave before, he could have been out four time between 80 and 99. Just at a time when the all rounders needed a chance to play themselves in at the other end against Bumrah and the new ball

Precisely. And yes, he was on 0 when he gave that opportunity last night and if he'd been out then, England would have been really under the pump.

It's frustrating when you see these players have so much talent and then throw their wicket away. I guess it's the modern game but it's just frustrating when it happens time and time again. The opposition must love it though as they must always think they have a chance of a wicket.
