The Cricket Thread

Equally were not likely to survive trying to bat this out at 2 an over for the next 5 sessions because our players aren’t that way inclined and the Indian bowlers are good.

It’s not just about trying to get them as quickly as possible. It’s about asserting pressure back onto the bowlers so that they’re out of their rhythm, wondering where to bowl and making it easier to score runs.

Appreciate we might get out cheaply sometimes but how many times have we broken the record 4th innings run chase in the last 3 years? Much more than we ever have done before.
They don't have to bat at 2 an over for 5 sessions though. Equally they don't have to bat as if it's a rain affected T20 either. The key, I would have thought is about game/time at the crease management. The Aussies used to be brilliant at positive batting and putting pressure on the bowling side, but being positive didn't mean being rash.

He’s got his 100 and it’s been chanceless after the drop. They’ve just been rotating and playing controlled, the perfect way. Clearly talented so give your self chance to show it

India's bowling since tea has been spot on.

Built the pressure up and not dropped off

Comes from that pressure though doesnt it. Everything unplayable then see a ball that can be hit and get it horribly wrong.
It doesn't have to. There is no need for that 'rush of blood' is there?

No need at all but the occasion etc takes over.
It shouldn't though at this level. It's test cricket. It's about digging in at times. See the bowlers out and don't give them an easy chance for a wicket.

Like I've just stated it's test cricket, it's about management, it's not 4 innings of T20.

Top level sport is full of moments that make no sense and leave you asking why have you done that.

Its poor and you hope a top level player could handle pressure situations but stupid things will happen.
Guess the best learn how to limit their fuck ups.

Yep, as in most sports, usually those that make the least mistakes/errors are the winners.

India on the verge here.

17 runs needed and just 1 wicket remaining.

Woakes out to bat with one working arm, other in a sling

Bit of a collapse really 56/6 after tea yesterday
Level score wins the series

Great job keeping Woakes off strike but every step is pure agony for him

Great end to a great series.
Disappointing to lose the match in the end but what an effort from Woakes and Atkinson.
