No way on Earth FIFA would consider allowing 5 nations an automatic qualification. As DW says Uruguay and Argentina have been pencilled in any way for 2030.
England would stand a far better chance going it alone or a joint bid with Wales. Could easily have 16 stadiums spread around the country with 40k capacity. You would Also get some less traditional footballing cities as hosts. Plymouth and Bristol spring to mind.

Is a 48 team tournament (yay) in 2030 so could be scope for 5 nations.

Saying that Irish sport for one has far better things it can spend its money on at the moment, (upgrade LOI grounds for one, and last time I looked FAI was upto it neck in debt) rather then throwing money at basically a political trinket.

I see Matt Ritchie has come out and apologised to Steve Bruce for calling him a coward.

Although it came after Bruce threw him under the bus after he blamed him for the goal we scored against them as apparently "Matty didn't get the instructions on fast enough" - shocking management really - have a word in the dressing room if needed, instead he raised it on an interview with Sky Sports.

Players are briefing against Bruce in the press over the fact he leaked that Darlow was being dropped before speaking to the player. Sounds like he has utterly lost the dressing room now.

Leak the news about one keeper being dropped. Then slag the other one off on live TV after he lets a goal in. Top management.

He's a proper stain on football. Damning indictment on the English game that he's managed 850+ matches. How?

Lost the fans (never really had them), dressing room and 3 best players. It does look like a sacking or a relegation.

Completely

Was listening to Craig Hope this morning on the radio who said that the press perpetuates the myth that Bruce is a good manager when he really isn't, mediocre at best.

Definitely lost the players. Shelvey came out in support but they said he looked like he was being held hostage!

Jim Shite has just read out a strong message of support for Bruce from an anonymous person, listening to the message the only conclusion being that it came directly from Bruce or his son.

He gets hundreds of letters a week saying what a superb job he's doing, mate.

Seems Canada, USA, Mexico are still waiting to see if they automatically qualify for 2026 even though they will be hosting it.

Just listening to someone over hear talking about it, brought up couple of points
1) Northern Ireland hasnt got a ground which is even remotely near meeting FIFA requirements.
2) Spain & Portugal are putting together a bid as well which seems to be flavour of the month already in UEFA, so no guarantee bid would get UEFA backing.

Forget the infrastructure, forget who else has bid, forget it being our turn. Ultimately it'll be principally seen as an English bid and everyone for fair reasons hates us so we have no chance

plenty of countries with a right to hate us but as from a football perspective why?

I think the political side plays a part, but outside of that there's a hatred and envy of the power of the PL, we are seen as entitled and arrogant re inventing the game - sometimes fairly sometimes not. The worst thing we can do is run a campaign based on it's coming home. Our fans don't exactly act as ambasssadors on their travels.

Fair enough, mind you on fans behaviour, while we 're no saints, there are far worse fans nowadays

Our hooligans are a jokeshop now, if they really must be taken seriously.

Either fat men in their 50s/60s who think it's still 1983, or scrawny little runts who've watched the Football Factory a few too many times and would run a fucking mile if anyone has a go back.

A far cry from chucking pool tables through Torquay pub windows which definitely happened.

The guy who will be leading our bid said we need to drop the football coming home line. It is unhelpful and turns countries against us. Fair comment. First tweet from Boris Johnson regarding the bid "lets bring football home"
