The Football News Thread 2024/25

So you're recommending an echo chamber where I shield myself from the views of others? I am interested in current affairs, differing perspectives and the odd social medial rabbit hole. I'm here to talk about stuff, not find a life coach

I didn't recommend that at all, but it doesn't sound like you really want to hear the views of others, or 'differing perspectives' so much as confirm your own low opinion of them.

Which is fine, but you're dressing it up as something it's not.

I mean I've seen it on GB News and 'anti-woke' Twitter page so I'm comfortable with what I said.

There are excuses being made now, that weren't being made on the day. First it was "religion of peace strikes again", then "he's not white or 53, look at this brown man getting arrested", then "they haven't said he was the driver", then "why haven't they named him yet, bet his name won't be John Smith", and now it's "Liverpool fans attacked him and he had a panic attack".
Oh good, we can perpetuate mental health stigma, too.

When I have them I can barely move, much less push a gas pedal. But could be different for everyone. I hate seeing that get pulled in as part of the argument here, though.

I get that people are desperate to separate themselves from individuals that commit such acts, but we’re still talking about another human. Ultimately, none of is are as far removed from them as we’d like to believe.

It's quite an insignificant thing to focus on, relatively speaking

Tell the people who made it a talking point.

When people start using the types of neuroses that I have to explain actions as heinous as these, of course it rings in my ears. Totally bizarre to me to say I can’t comment on it.

I wouldn't worry Al, I was wrong about why I watch television earlier. Imagine being that stupid

The Poundland Stadium is no more...mainly as Poundland are in the shit and can't afford it. The Pallet-Trak Stadium the new name for Bescot.

That’s probably why they’re late paying my invoices

BREAKING: Scott Carson will leave Manchester City this summer after six years at the club, with his contract set to expire and not being renewed.

During his time at City, Carson became something of a cult hero, more for what he represented than how often he played.

His stats in sky blue:

🏆 4x Premier League
🏆 1x Champions League
🏆 1x FA Cup
🏆 2x League Cup
🏆 1x Community Shield
🏆 1x UEFA Super Cup
🏆 1x Club World Cup

🕒 108 minutes played
🥇 11 trophies won

That’s a trophy every 9.8 minutes on the pitch and more Premier League titles than Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry 👀

The end of an iconic chapter.

Thing is big clubs don't employ these types as a bit of a laugh (although it does help when they're English so count towards home grown quotas).

It's a pretty important job, goalkeeping is its own department by its very nature and you want/need someone on board to do all the crap that most keepers don't want to do, while not being an arse, having the gravitas to be able to take the lead in sessions at times and be ok with never playing.

We all know Lonergan was a terrible keeper but Liverpool couldn't speak highly enough of him when he was doing that job for them. It's as much a coaching role as a playing one.

I mean if you offered us the prospect of Coady coming back here next season to be a player/coach and he'd maybe play the League Cup/Sherpa Van games and 5-10 in the league, I think most would go for it (depending on the financials) knowing what we know about his character and influence.

I see the Chelsea PSR loophole hasn’t been closed, so may as well do away with the rules now. They serve zero purpose. Puts us in trouble though if others start dipping their hands in their pockets yet we keep to the “self sustainable” model

Financially we need to be a minimum of the fourth slowest person running away from the hungry bear. It's up to the high ups whether we want to progress further than that.

Palace may get their European football taken away from them as their owners have clubs in both the Europa League and Conference League. They didn’t put their shares in a blind trust by the deadline date and haven’t been able to sell their shares since either

Textor does not have control over Palace - he’s publicly unhappy with that
