The Football News Thread 2024/25

I have a reasonable soft spot for Leicester City. Presumably from my university days in the city. Those poor bastards absolutely do not deserve Gary O'Neil.

Bear - you have a Foxestalk account don't you? Fucking tell them a few home truths about how much of a disastrous appointment this could be.
If they do get him they might do alright for a season or two, especially as their squad is still pretty good for that league.

I know a fair few Leicester fans. They’ve had the ultimate highs of winning the league and FA Cup. Watching a team that plays with a midfield that is tasked with running around like headless chickens and is utterly clueless at defending set pieces would go a little way to balancing things out.

Its clearly a rip off but 65.99 p/m for sky sports in not correct

Some of the Thomas Partey stuff is incredibly hard to read. Absolutely fuck Arsenal. Awful, awful club.

Sounds like they’re hiding behind “innocent until proven guilty” mantra.
Means they can protect their £45m investment.
Plastering him all over social media whilst under investigation? Big no, no
Playing him a big no, no
If you want to keep autonomy then you need to provide cover story ie a training ground injury etc and place him on gardening leave.
Offering a new contract is unforgivable and Arteta is an absolute prick for wanting him to stay.
If he was a fringe player coming through the ranks but probably not good enough he’d be bombed out.

They must've got that figure from here;

Virgin Media subscribers won't miss out either, as they'll have access to Sky's Premier League action with certain packages. Virgin's Bigger Combo bundle + Sports, priced at £65.99 per month, offers eight Sky Sports channels, alongside 362Mbps broadband and more than 200 TV channels, albeit at a higher cost than Sky

I really don’t think it’s much to ask to allow just one match a week guaranteed to be on free to air tv. Yes England games, as are Fa cup games and very occasionally a championship game.
Nevertheless one game in a Sunday regardless of division or competition is not asking the earth.
Even £20-25 a month is a big ask for some families living a hand to mouth existence.

To add on this when I was 13 in the mid 90’s we couldn’t afford sky but I still had more access to live football compared to a 13 yea old in the same position today.
In the 90’s you’d get a live championship/div1 game every Sunday plus live Serie A games.
Midweek ITV would have a champions league game or BBC would show a UEFA or CWC game.

It's not really a surprise so many people stream games illegally when its so easy to do.

I could afford to pay for all of it if I wanted too, but am happy enough with the NowTV option.

But with all Sunday fixtures now being eligible for TV broadcast it wouldn't have hurt the Premier League to throw one of those to a free to air channel like the EFL/Sky did towards the end of last season with some Championship games.

Don’t forget they sacked the kit man immediately for supporting Palestine, thats obviously a worse crime than rape

As expected, Palace have been demoted to the Conference League. Still unclear whether Forest will replace them in the Europa

So Palace in a competition they’ve got a genuine chance of winning, 2 fewer group games to worry about either.
Still get a European tour so I wouldn’t be that disappointed

Aye, I'd rather win the Conference League than hit the Europa QFs, and they've got a good chance

I think both competitions are winnable for decent PL sides with the new format. 3rd place Champions League teams used to drop into Europa at the knockout phase, now it's a much easier competition.

Think there’s a reasonable financial discrepancy though which they might not be too pleased about.
