The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

This may be a factor. While RAN hasn't been one to kick up a big fuss, there have clearly been times when he has not been entirely happy here. Maybe there has been something said which has meant accepting a lower than market value bid was necessary?
Based on Lemina’s tweet, I’d guess it’d been the plan for a while that we’d let Rayan “move up” if an offer came.

Perhaps. But even then it's 2 months until the season starts
Now, it's down to whether you believe the President of Angers but he states RAN was joining City in January and only failed because of some documents not being filed by Jorge.

If that has an ounce of truth, then it's not a massive jump to - we agreed with City that in the next window they have first refusal.
We then offered RAN a new deal and maybe Jorge was leaning on him a little to stay but his heart is set on City, so off he pops to a new agent to ensure that happens.

Probably bollocks but no more bollocks that City bid out of nowhere and we bent over instantly really.

That may all be true. But none of it justifies the fee being so low?

It doesn't.

I know we had the option for another year, but is that option worth anything if the player has zero desire to stay. You are risking a lot if you insist a player stays, especially on future value.

Personally I think he is a £45m player and we have got it wrong, without knowing any info. (yet equally I don't think any player should be worth that much, money in football is obscene...but that is another matter)

It does matter though. If something was agreed with the player, then it's been honoured.
Ifs/buts/maybe. Even if something was “agreed”, it’s a bad agreement. So the point still stands.
Let's chuck in Vitor and his "you don't want to be here, piss off" he isn't going to accept a sulky RAN around the place until the end of August.
Still a month till he’s off his his holidays… So this one doesn’t wash either.
Madrid paid £10m because they want a player for the club cup bollocks. Without that they don't get him until July, so it's not for nothing (they will get that money back somehow from FIFA).
I know why they paid. City want him early and we’re giving them a discount.
Its a shit fee and should £45m min, but it isn't and we can get all amateur sporting director about it but we don't actually know the details of anything other than the fee.
So you agree with me… A lot of words playing devils advocate yet still supporting my view original point.

I like to try and find reasons behind decisions. I can sit here and join in the anger/disappointment and just help make every comment the same or i can try and make a discussion about it.

If so, we really are weak.
In what way?

I understand it's frustrating but the idea that we can just hold players forever isn't at all realistic. Would RAN even have come here if he didn't think it was a step toward something bigger? This is just where we are as a club. Rúben, Jota, even the likes of Neto; would any have come with the expectation that we'd be the biggest club they'd ever play for? I would find that exceptionally hard to believe.

The fee you can quibble over. I don't think it's so low as to be upset about, personally, but this idea that the club is "weak" because we expected a successful Rayan to be sold feels like a mismatch against our stature.

My opinion errs towards Alan, having watched him at home last season he’s flattered to deceive on quite a few occasions, I’m not sure he actually completed a game.
Just my opinion before you kick off.

It's the first week of the transfer market.

I get we're a stepping stone, but there's a good chunk of money in between "we won't stand in the way of a reasonable bid" and accepting a lowball pisstake offer when we're in a good financial position (and so are they, from a PSR perspective)

Any concrete links to players we are going to sign or are we all going to whine until the cows come home about the players that we’ve sold?

Text book Fosun transfer window so far.
Doubt there'll be much till the window re-opens on 16th. Tbf it's pretty much all guess work till just before any actual transfers happen.

The richest club in the world came in for one of our most important/best players who had 2 years left and is young.

Us selling him for less than his market value potentially because he might piss and moan is weak.

Selling him for 5 or 10 mill more isn't going to make us less attractive to another young player or the agent of a young player.

I think it'd be easier to swallow if the ticket prices weren't so high just to raise an extra couple of quid?

I guess that’s where I’m going to differ from most, which is fair enough.

“Why did you just set fire you your wardrobe” “I was cold”. “Oh right that’s fine then”.

You can’t justify something that is plainly wrong with something equally as stupid and that makes it OK.

You can’t justify something that is unjustifiable. We could have stomped our feet for at least a month and it would have had ZERO impact on us

This sums it up.
