The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Here’s the thing I don’t get. Why haven’t we gone out and secured Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer?

We’ve lost our first choice left wing back - we’ve no idea whether our first choice right wing back is staying (ridiculous situation, as alluded to earlier). Lima didn’t feature much under Vitor so may be better suited for a loan. Hoever is unlikely fit for purpose at this level. We’ve got Rodrigo who can cover both sides but he’s a tad lightweight defensively and seems better going the other way.

You’ve got a free agent, who’s homegrown, can play on both sides - has premier league experience - has steadily improved and developed throughout his time at Southampton available right now. He’s on realistic wages & wouldn’t cost a transfer fee - and is someone we could be getting through the door. Why aren’t we in for him? I’m pretty sure he’d still sign regardless of whether Semedo stays.

You can guarantee we are waiting for Nelson to make his decision before we go out and sign someone else. But in the meantime, we’ve no idea who we might miss out on because other clubs have got in there first. THAT amongst many other reasons is why the situation is ridiculous, at least from the clubs perspective.
You make it sound like shopping at Walmart and the player doesn't get a choice. One wonders why, like Semedo, he hasn't got a new club?

And speculating on who we might miss out on is somewhat ridiculous.

Call me crazy but might just be because Vitor doesn't want to him.

All for us getting in players but not as simple as "X is available, why haven't we signed him" is it
It doesn’t have to be KWP, but it’s as good an example as any.

And I’d be very surprised if Vitor didn’t think KWP could work in the system he wants to play. Plus he’s FREEEEEEEE and we all know that would tick a lot of boxes for Jeff/Fosun.

Maybe we have sounded out KWP and he’s hoping for an offer from a southern team. So much we don’t know yet that’s ignored if it doesn’t fit an individual’s agenda.

We've only regressed to the mean IMO after a couple of over-acheiving seasons. Thanks mainly to the purchases of Neves, Jota and Jimenez. Mid to lower table is roughly our position in the league. Certainly more so given the ownership policy for buying players.

The same thing will likely happen to Forest too once the big boys poach all of their best talent.

But Jeff said we'd be better than City.....

Have Southampton offered him a contract? Is he Southampton's captain?
They tried throughout the season to get him to sign a new deal.

Unluckily for KWP the Southampton captain didn't act the twat and have the armband taken off him so he never got the chance.

Its going to be an even longer summer than normal if we are choosing players for Vitor then getting annoyed when we don't sign them
Every summer is a longer summer by this metric.

The back to back 7ths, FA cup semi and Euro experience got people all giddy. Ofcourse owners saying we want to be like Man City, whilst sounds absolutely lovely was never going to happen.

Talk of regression, I get it, but I’m not really sure how we were going to progress? Only have to look now at teams like Villa, can’t spend now, are going to find it hard to sustain where they are.

Yes, we have had some terrible decisions from owners, but also so chronic bad luck (Raul being a huge one)

Teams the size of us go through phases in the league, a good season can have you finishing close to Europe or sneaking a cup run in, a bad season can see you fighting relegation. Sadly we have had a couple of shit seasons Ofcourse.

Thomas frank being lauded as a manager has finishes of 10, 16, 9, 13, for example.

Whilst it’s disappointing the last few seasons, and can see why there’s frustration with the owners, I still don’t think they’re as bad as everyone makes out.
