The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

And how unmotivated he'd be.
I’d like to think that most pros at this level can get on with it either way. That’s the job.

Nélson also just seems way too even-keeled to be upset. He’ll understand the business side, as it were. He was perhaps the only player we had who really kept his emotions in check whilst GO was setting the team on fire.

Also don’t think that Nélson not immediately accepting the contract offer is somehow disrespectful to the club. Maybe we overpaid relative to his offensive output, but he’s in with Boly and Jonny as the three best defenders I’ve seen play for us.

Golbourne still has the trophy for wackiest hair, tho.

He’s not even close to Boly or pre-injury Jonny. He behind that entire era of defenders bar Doc.

I'd happily hand him that deal. He's a good player, he's not in decline, he's one of the very few leaders we have.

The money we're saving on Sarabia and Dawson leaving pays for it.

Or you can trust us to sign an international level RWB who'll slot in seamlessly, all within our weird budget that never makes sense.

It’s hard because I’d rather just keep Nelson and save our attention on other areas. Lima should be able to inherit that position from him in the medium term.

Four years is an insane contract offer though, I don’t get it. Why have we offered that and why hasn’t he accepted it!

Exactly. I'd be delighted if he signed.

He’s a professional, and a good one at that. Motoivation won’t be an issue. He will knuckle down.

We obviously offered something he’s not happy about or he’d have snapped our hands off for a 4 year deal at his age where a lot of his game is pace and athleticism.

I'm sure he's had plenty of financial advice comparing the total 4 year wages to what he'd get after a 2 year deal and then getting a big signing fee from another club.

Do you think he's going to fall off a cliff when he turns 33?

I don't.
Whilst he does seem pretty reliable the older he gets the more risk there is he will start to fade.

We're going to have to replace him at sum point, but like you i wouldnt trust the club to get it right first time

If we want to keep him we have to make a big offer, which is why it's four years.

Why would he pick us on a two-year contract? I imagine plenty of top clubs would take him in similar circumstances, so, to have any chance, we need to offer a longer deal and/or big wages.

I personally think he would be fine for two years, and probably a third. So don't think it's that bad.

But 33 is only just over a year into a four year deal. There's nearly three more to go on the same money.

I agree that at 32 I still expect him to be more than able and 33 as well, hence why a two year extension would seem ideal. However with an unsigned offer still on the table, Nelson must want something different.

Don't much care about how old he is or the length of the contract. However seems bizarre he hasn't accepted it or said no thank you by now.

I totally agree with you, I’d happily hand it to him too.

I just don’t believe that’s what we’ve offered him.

It’s probably the most un-like Wolves offer I’ve ever seen, if we have.

Times they are a changing.

Not in a million years are we offering that deal without the power Vitor has grabbed at the club.
Under Hobbs the plan was let him go, save huge wages and go with Lima and Doc as the RB options.
