The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Not sure why but I'm not 100% sold on Pubil as an up and down wing-back. He looks quite lanky and ungainly. And he'll be up against much quicker and more technical players than in that video.

I'm probably wrong though. Hopefully.

Yep, that's the way you'd hope we'll play it.

I'm not sure how often previously we've had these clauses in signings we've made? I know a lot of people were agonising over the specifics of RANs months before he left
Aware we don’t know the percentage, but does seem to contradict the not seeing the club as a stepping stone argument.

As previously mentioned, maybe they’re just a part of most deals now?

I’d hope it’s a percentage of profit, rather than flat percentage.

So basically this guy is a fucking legend and a Wolves hero already. We all okay with that?

Nope!

He could have earned enough to rebuild his town in Colombia, medical facilities etc etc with the money on offer from Saudi.
Instead he’ll just be exceptionally rich and able to support his wider family for generations to come whilst being idolised by folk in yellow(ish) shirts in an industrial city in the West Midlands.
This guy has got it all wrong.

Surprisingly though, he does have a good touch...

He'll be fine in leafy Tettenhall or Finchfield.

I can't imagine that any player under 23 doesn't have one in any transfer tbh

It'll probably blow up in my face by October when he breaks again, but id like us to keep Sasa as the back up.

Surely it ticks a lot of boxes? He'll be committed, yet happy to start as a back up for JSL, he's already our player, hes a logical "type" of back up for JSL, he seems to be a good bloke with a good attitude.

He can just as easily stay with us as a back up to rebuild his fitness/career as go somewhere else.

According to an article on the Athetic today we have the lowest number of homegrown players/highest number of non-qualifying players - we need to get rid of some of the dross like Hwang if we are set on more signings like Pubill.
From last season's official registered squad:

Squad (*Home Grown)

1 Ait-Nouri, Rayan
2 Bellegarde, Jeanricner
3 Bentley, Daniel*
4 Semedo, Nelson
5 Nasser Djiga
6 Dawson, Craig*
7 Doherty, Matthew*
8 Doyle, Thomas*
9 Guedes, Goncalo
10 Gomes, Toti
11 Gomes, Joao
12 Hwang, Hee-Chan
13 Bueno, Santiago
14 Johnstone, Samuel*
15 King, Thomas*
16 Larsen, Jorgen Strand
17 Marshall Munetsi
18 Sa, Jose
19 Mosquera, Yerson
20 Cunha, Matheus
21 Sarabia, Pablo
22 Traore, Boubacar
23 Andre, Neto

Only 6 HGN players and three of those have left/will leave in Dawson, Doyle and Johnstone.

Having just 3 HGN players leaves us with a max squad size of 20 players. Clearly we could do with another couple.

Cunha, Semedo, Sarabia and Ait-Nouri have all left, and Traore is on his way out. Djiga has left on loan too.

Fer Lopez was under 21 on 1st Jan 2025 so doesn't needs to be registered, and Arias and Pubil are both coming in. Hugo Bueno will be back too as another non-HGN (not sure if he counts as HGN or not tbh)

Currently it looks something like this.

Squad (*Home Grown)

1 Arias, Jhon
2 Bellegarde, Jeanricner
3 Bentley, Daniel*
4 Mosquera, Yerson
5 Bueno, Hugo
6 Pubil, Marc
7 Doherty, Matthew*
8 Sa, Jose
9 Guedes, Goncalo
10 Gomes, Toti
11 Gomes, Joao
12 Hwang, Hee-Chan
13 Bueno, Santiago
14 Andre, Neto
15 King, Thomas*
16 Larsen, Jorgen Strand
17 Marshall Munetsi
18 Johnstone, Sam*
(U21 Fer Lopez)

So, a squad of 19 first team players, and five of those aren't going to play or are out of favour (Johnstone, King, Bentley, Hwang, Guedes).

That shows a very small squad and a lot of gaps still. Though we do have spaces for three more non-HGN players assuming Johnstone stays. Only two non-HGN spaces if he leaves.

We still need more than a LWB, CM and forward IMO. No wonder Vitor is complaining already.

But if he CAN stay fit for the majority of a season, he wouldn't want to be a back up striker :)
We could probably take the risk if we had a better option in the U21s/coming through, but given there seems to be a lack of talent in that area as well, if we lose JSL & then Sasa breaks (again), then we'd be stuck with inexperienced kids again.

With the balance of the squad, and the number of areas we still need to improve - I think Vitor will be told to use Hwang/Sasa as the back-up to JSL. Which of course, isn't good enough. But if we cannot sort outgoing moves for them (and they'll be working on Fabio, Guedes etc too) then I don't see them signing someone else.

Especially when we have no back-up to Toti and Vitor seems desperate to get another midfielder through the door (and a LWB).

If Hwang doesn't move on he will be fine as backup for either JSL or just behind/wide. He'll at least be motivated to play well and get back in the team, as per his recent interview.

I know we all do it on here and that is point of the place but it's a big presumption there.

I dont think Vitor will be told to do anything to be honest. We binned the old set up to ensure he was centre of decision making.

For me both Hwang and Sasa will want to move on, for different reasons and if they are still here when the window closes it won't be because we have refused to let them go.

In our discussions on players we have to include Mane as well. Vitor made a big thing last season that he would be part of the first team going forward and that promise probably helped keep him with interest from other clubs seemingly strong.
Not saying first choice here but will see him on the bench a lot and presume will be classed as an option to bring on rather than making up the numbers.
