The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

If Pubill was a one-off, it's understandable.

Manu, Danso and Pubill in the space of two windows is a theme.

They were coming from Guimaraes, Lens and Almeria. Three clubs that should be attainable for us, and we were gazumped at the last minute by bigger clubs when the deal was 'done'.

There is clearly a problem in getting deals finalised and we're allowing opportunities for other clubs to step in.

Well that was an interesting read

I think i will come back in September and save myself the hopes raised and dashed
I have been in detox for some years from Wolves various forums and have fallen off the wagon this summer.... I think I need another few weeks away and see what next season brings on the pitch...... But that said, this is better than elsewhere...

Again, I think its naive to think players good enough to get us where we want to be, are going to 'want to play for Wolves' whatever that means anyway. That's not to say that we can't sign good players, but often we need circumstances to fall in our favour.
It's not unreasonable to expect a Premier League club to tailor its recruitment to realistic signings. Nothing to do with circumstances, we know who is leaving, the dates of the window and have plenty of time to prepare and analyse the potential player metrics.

This happens window after window. Try something different and act like a proper fit for purpose recruitment team. Yes I know...

I just don't understand the need to shout into the void about how shit things are. It's been this way for years, we all know what it's like, none of us apologises for the club, and I just don't feel the need to complain all day every day when it achieves nothing, not even a helpful debate (we all agree that it's shit - what else do you want us to say?)

I'm not sure how we could have moved on from Pubil earlier than today? Atletico came in the last 24 hours to match our offer did they not?

Up until then we thought we were getting our man as no other "bigger" club had been willing to match our offer.

So why would we have moved on earlier? We gave Semedo a set amount of time to change his mind, then we went after our first choice target.

You can argue we should have been negotiating with Pubil/Almeria weeks ago, so let's assume we did and made contact before the 1st July. And I'm sure we were having initial discussions on what would get a deal done in case Semedo didn't change his mind. But why would Pubil agree to sign for us when he knew he had bigger fish showing an interest with 8 weeks or more of the window still to go?

Sure we could have moved on when he instantly didn't agree to sign for us, but we might have ended up missing out on Vitor's first choice player because of impatience and pissed off the manager even more. We could have even opened up the door for one of our rivals to sign him after doing all the negotiating grunt work on a deal he'd accept if a better option didn't appear.

I'm sure that would have gone down well with Vitor too if we missed out on him due to acting too rashly still with around 2 months of the window still to go.

We’d have him if Atlético hadn’t been even more embarrassed over getting sniped by Bilbao for that other RB.

Deadline is 1st September. Let's face facts, we are not such an attractive proposition anymore with how things have gone since covid. From what I can see, we are trying to sign the right type of player and going for quality. As we've seen, convincing such a player to come to us isn't easy. I expect as time moves on and the deadline approaches, we will have more options open to us.
Fuck me. We aren't Rochdale.

This most recent gazumping happened about 4 hours ago.

Why shouldn't it be talked about?

Didn't Atletico push the button on this because another deal fell through? That was in the original tweet that broke the news anyway. That's what I mean by circumstances. Admitedly, none of us really know if we were ever really in with a shout of signing this guy, reputable sources in the media seemed to think it was close but who knows how much of that was his agent playing games.

Regardless, as several other posters have alluded to already, if we are now describing our attempts to sign a kid, whom most of us had never heard of two weeks ago, as being unrealistic or a waste of time, then we really are in trouble.

It's possible to be disappointed with the direction of travel of the club, the lack of intent from the owners, the general cuntishness of our CEO AND to have a degree of understading when a deal like this falls through. I want to see the best players possible playing for Wolves at the end of the day.

Absolutely, and I don't think anyone has veered too far away from that, whether it's Jinky who gets ridiculed, or Kenny who is seen as the wise old owl.
