The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

over spending on average at best players.

I'm not sure on that one, it's only the Krejci fee which raises eyebrows in my opinion (although I'll admit I didn't know much about any of our signings before this summer). The 2 we know for sure that we missed out on (Pubill & Uche) would've been reasonable fees as well.

Getting all 6 (should really be 7) signings perfectly right is going to be hard for any club and I don't expect all of them to be roaring successes but I really don't think writing them all off as average at best is fair at this stage either.

If you squint a bit then that might get you to match last season.

But where's the depth. What happens when players lose form, or get injured.

Agbadou has had three dismal games to kick the season off, Sa is Sa, the wingbacks have a lot to do very quickly (and haven't looked like instant hits).

The HG position we're in is bloody awful and you KNEW about this months ago.

It's just baffling management of the club to leave us in this situation. You shouldn't have had to try very hard to sort this out.

Yeah probably a bit over reaction to call them all average at this point. I've been very disappointed with Arias, tbf there was always far too much expectation on him, hopefully he comes good.
Lopez was quite a lot of money for what he currently brings I thought, again hope he gets it together.

You don't have to row back on what you really think just cos Lycan wants to be reasonable and fair all season; that's his prerogative.

It's OK to be pissed off and 'unfair' at the shitshow unfolding again!

We don't have to be reasonable and give the benefit of the doubt again and again and again and again and again when what we get out of the club is the same inadequacy season after season. They don't deserve any more chances, or 'maybe this time's'; they're piss-takers

I don't think any of the signings that have been on the pitch so far look anything other than big downgrades on the players we lost this summer. Lopez looks promising, but so did Rodrigo when he first joined

We’ve got too many players that might do a job with a fair wind and stars like Cunha and RAN to carry them. Without the latter the former look poor. We’ve got two CMs after which the quality falls off a cliff. With Semedo going we don’t have one defender who you’d say is composed and reliable. Despite losing so many players there’s still three that will feature regularly that the vast majority should be happy to never see play for us again but we’ll need Bellegarde, Munetsi and Hwang because the squad is completely unbalanced. I was going to say that apart from that it’s been a successful window then I remembered the goalkeeping situation.

That was a fun 15 pages. Bunch of temperamental slags.

I'm not having any of this c+ bollocks, it's a shocker of a window. We've lost our two most exciting talents most influencial match day performers. We've spent that money on a bunch of lads we've never heard of and we need them to settle in literally by mid-September and then at least two of them be our top players. They haven't got time to settle, for the jury to be out. They need to replace Semedo, RAN and Cunha, immediately. Their input, influence, goal involvements. It's a massively unfair ask.

I feel like I've been full on Shi Out for three years now, but the cunt is getting worse by the season. Soooo many poor decisions it's unreal. I've never been particularly sold on VP, and didn't rate Hobbs at all - but sacking him and bringing in Vitor's mate, despite him having a new job every 18 months was fucking mental.

Shit window, and I'm 90% sure we're going down.

About Larsen....

He played on Left Winger and Second striker on Celta some games.

With that tall, all games seem like that, the two towers:

The head-scratcher for me...our first two signings are Lopez for £19m and Arias for £15m...so how do we get them in the side together now? We've signed Tolu so presumably he'll be playing in a 2 so that only leaves the single CAM role?
You could have a De Burgh style 4-4-2 (with added Peri-Peri Pulis height at full back)

---------------------Sa---------------------

Mosquera------Krejci-----Agbadou----Toti

Lopez---------J Gomes-----André-----Arias

-------------Strand Larsen---Arokodare-----

I would not do that

I think I prefer this to your first option.

Or 4-4-2 diamond.

It could work, it did under Ballbag's mate for a while and there were arguably more square pegs in round holes then (we didn't really have two strikers and Ratheus isn't a wide player, in fact who knows what he is).

But it wasn't particularly nice to watch.

I'm not sure I get the new striker. Could be a good player, who knows, but in pushing 40 years of watching football I haven't seen many big man/big man combos! Sheringham and Cascarino at Millwall springs to mind, but Teddy was a brilliant footballer who just happened to also be tall. JSL's work outside the box isn't particularly great, if Tolu is similarly limited then you're basically left with two massive lugs waiting forever for someone to cross it in.

I'm presuming Vitor has a plan for the new signings, it just seems like whatever he does there's a fairly new £20m signing sitting next to Sam Johnstone every game...while we have a £10m WB on each flank...seems an inefficient use of limited finances but maybe it'll become clearer after the break?

Would love to see a place for Rodrigo somewhere but I don't think Vitor fancies him and he might just be an impact sub at best

This is sort of feasible. But what do we do with the six 'wing backs'? Lima, R.Gomes, Hoever, Jackson, Wolfe, Bueno...
Have I missed any? Losing count at this stage 😆 Crazy club

You really do like to put words in people's mouths and make out they've said things they haven't, are you related to Jinky?
Yes I am pissed off with our business and yes I'm happy to re think my opinion if someone else puts a reasonable point.
The incoming players were always going to be downgrades on Cunha, RAN and Semedo. Anyone who thought otherwise hasn't been paying attention the last few seasons.
And again I am angry with the running of the club, I just don't feel the need to keep banging on about it over and over again.
